I hear ya, but I think a lot happened between 1945 and 1946. At least, I hope a lot happened.

If the answer is yes, maybe the conversation turns, for just a moment, away from the proposition, Saddam Hussein Was A Very Bad Man. We all agree about that, and yet some conservatives seem to think that repeating it over and over again is a useful for substitute for, e.g., trying to figure out what can be salvaged in Iraq or what we could do for Zimbabwe, or Darfur, or Sierra Leone. I mean, no shit that Hussein killed a lot of Kurds.
eta: My other point, of course, was that Hussein's atrocities against Kurds in the late 1980's don't have much of anything to do with the containment policy that DK and I were discussing, since not only were we not containing Hussein before he invaded Kuwait, we were supporting him as a counterweight to Iran.

Remember Guatemala? A US propped death squad killed nuns and missionaries there. Oh, or lets talk about the ITT deal in South America. Oh, and when did Saddam kill those babies? Before or after our aid to him ended? How about our favored trading partner China's nasty habit of selling the organs of people it executes for crimes as small as embezzlement. And lets not forget our good friends the Saudis, and their severed head collection, which they update weekly. When Shell Oil hanged Ken Saro Wiwa, did we condemn them? Fuck no.
Killing babies? Brother, we've been in that gig for a long time. Just because its indirect doesn't mean you're not culpable.

If you were a representative user, I'm pretty sure society wouldn't have gone so far out of its way to create the disparity that benefits you. You are a lucky little boy.

Actually, it reminded that Kerry voted against going to war with this savage back in 1991.
Switching gears, for all of you that were so incensed by those "they'll take your Bibles" flyers, are you equally incensed by this:
- Democrats in a race for a state House seat in District 82, are circulating a flyer that shows a retarded child with President Bush’s face running in a track race. The headline says: “Voting for Bush Is Like Running In The Special Olympics: Even If You Win, You’re Still Retarded.”... the flyers have been distributed for at least two weeks from Fitzhugh’s campaign office in Ripley, Tennessee. It also serves as the Kerry-Edwards headquarters.
Story and picture of the offensive flyer found here: http://www.traditionalvalues.org/modules.php?sid=1951

Please. It's not like you guys gave a rip about these atrocities before he invaded Kuwait.

Not equally incensed, since it's not an effort to mislead, but it's certainly highly offensive in its own way.
eta: So's this guy.
And what do you think about the GOP firm that was registering Democrats in Nevada and destroying the forms? Shouldn't someone be going to jail? Usually it's the GOP who are all agitated about voter fraud.

I will take a stand here and declare that the flyer in question is in bad taste.

In any of these countries, did the US first lead with economic sanctions against the country for 15 years? No. Do you not see how our sanctioning, and encouraging sanctioning of, Iraq has already caused harm to the people there and why we might have a responsibility there that is more direct than that of say, Chad? And why would we attack Indonesia? Their human rights record isn't very good but we have a good working relationship with their newly elected President. A far cry from the hopelessness of dealing with Saddam Hussein.
The only thing you have contributed to this discussion is typing out the names of lots of third world countries in the hopes that this whole "global thing" will seem so "complicated" thereby hiding the fact that you are in fact a pussy.

I think you could find the flip side somewhere going on today.
You continually out yourself as someone who might read blogs, and has strong opinions, but who has never worked in an actual campaign. This low level shit goes on in all campaigns because the most dedicated workers are the truly deranged.

Moreover, I'll bet Democratic voters take this guy to task much more than the Rs will on the bible flyer. We don't put up with this shit.

given the problems with figuring out ballots faced by much of your base, the ad hits a little too close to home?

Would it really hurt you that much to say that destroying voter registrations is a bad thing? Come on, this really isn't a tough one.
BTW, this wasn't lower level - this was a hired company, management ordered it to be done, and the whistle was blown by the lower levels.

of course it's bad, and dumb. Tearing down signs is bad and dumb. throwing away the other side's materials is dumb and wrong. All wrong! and done in the squeakest clean campaigns across the country every time there is an election.
