Yeah that is what it looks like. It's not bad at all, given what happened. Really they pretty much contained it as far as I understand. I wasn't here then, so I don't know the full story. People are very calm about living by it so clearly it isn't an issue even to people who lived through it.

We did get nervous after the 11th of course, for a time.

That is probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard. How the hell is the Chicago skyline any more "distinctive" than any other skyline? It's not like every city is striving for comformity you asscraper. Every city's skyline is distinctive. Yours is just smaller than the ones that people remember.

Game Over

This half trumps every picture you second rate citizens have posted (and you can even insert the soon-to-be-tallest-building-in-theworld and we've got you beat):

Add this and it reduces the argument to an afterthought:

And now I'm going to drink because conference calls suck ass.

Close. If friendliness is OJ, flirting is a Mimosa -- bubbly with a little kick.

Without her, he'd truly never get any sex ever again with or without his extra $$. He wouldn't spend enough $$ on another woman to overcome his inherent geekiness that for some reason my sis finds endearing. And due to inherent cheapness he'd never spend the $$ to buy sex.

He's so cheap he (1) let the shrubs in front of his parents' vacant house die this summer rather than spend a few dollars on the water bill and (2) thought it was a good idea to let the home owner's insurance lapse on that house to save a couple hundred bucks.

Skylines by Numbers. Easy as 1, 2, 3.

I say HK wins.

These rankings of skylines using an algorithm agree:http://www.library.tudelft.nl/~egram/skylines.htm

Edited to provide link instead of pic since it is messing up the margin. L

It can't possibly be the dumbest thing you've ever heard. You've said much dumber shit within the last week. Perhaps that conference call numbed your brain, you're aving spent too much time sitting on it.

Go have a few drinks, eat some overpriced foolishly prepared food, and enjoy your weekend.

It was once nothing higher than Wm. Penn's hat, then in mid-80's they started allowing taller buildings. Did they go back to Wm. Penn's hat in the late 80's/90's?

Wonka's not the only one that likes Chicago's skyline more than NYC's. The site with the ranking by algorithm also has a ranking by poll, and in the poll, Chi-town beats NYC.
Link to poll

And ncs, the reason no one talks up DC's skyline is that it's basically flat except for a few monuments. That's why in the rankings by algorithm and poll, DC kinda sucks.

The Algoritms are stupid. They give the same "score" to a block like chunkie structure with a big needle as they do to an architectural gem. Part of what makes the New York skyline distinctive is the mix of skyscraper architectural styles running from the Empire State Building to the Chrysler Building and on.

New York also has multiple downtowns, and so multiple peaks to its skyline. With the multiple rivers and Islands, you get even more interest to the skyline. Chicago has one downtown, with two big buildings sticking out. Yes, the lake is quite beautiful (especially if you've ever seen the skyline in a thunder storm, which occur fairly frequently). But even Boston has a more distinctive shape with its back-bay conglomeration and its downtown conglomeration, and every major city has some major water to reflect its skyline.

Also, the only city that can even come close to the bridges of New York is San Francisco, but it's still not there. And those bridges add a lot.

But neither city has much natural beauty around it other than the water -- so go look at the cities in the Northwest, and they have a whole additional dimension to them.

OK.

Enough.

The algorithm is smart enough to agree with you that NYC has a better skyline than Chicago. Maybe you mean the people polled are stupid -- or maybe most people just disagree with you.

I personally prefer NYC's skyline to Chicago's for the reasons you state. I might like Shanghai's and HK's more than NYC's though.

The rule that you are leagl are referring to went by the wayside in the 80s with the construction of One Liberty Place. It was not an enforced rule, just an unofficial agreement not to build skyscrapers higher than the hat. Now there are lots.

Having said that, I have to throw my two cents into the skyline debate, which is this: By the time you begin competing for which city's skyline is the best, you have truly run out of things to say. Turn off your computer and go pour yourself a martini.

If they disagree with me, they must be stupid, right?
