Colo. Group Calls for Peter Coors Apology

- DENVER (AP) -- Minority groups called on Republican Senate candidate Peter Coors to apologize Wednesday after a spokeswoman said it would be worse to be compared to Sen. John Kerry than to a convicted killer.
The dispute arose last week when an appeals court upheld the conviction of a reputed Ku Klux Klansman in the murder of a black man.
The New York Times mistakenly used a photo of Coors with a story about the ruling. Asked about the error, Coors campaign spokeswoman Cinamon Watson said: "It could have been worse. Pete could have been identified as John Kerry."
The Rev. James Peters, spokesman for the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance, said the remark was insensitive.
"If Peter Coors or Ms. Watson thinks it is funny or lighthearted to compare Sen. Kerry to a convicted KKK murderer, then they are either willfully ignorant of the emotion African-Americans feel about such matters, or they are terribly out of touch and they should be ashamed," Peters said.
Watson said her remarks were not meant to offend anyone. "It's unfortunate that this has taken away attention from the real issues of our campaign," she said.
Someone needs to tell these people to LIGHTEN-UP, FRANCIS!!!!

This is the true reason the French and the Germans were against the coalition. They knew their duplicity would be exposed.

I'm not sure why that should have any effect on the fraud investigation. I'm guessing that the contracts did not say, "Hey, Iraq, I'm going to defraud you of billions."

I think they are more upset that anyone would make light of a KKK member who murdered someone. But I could be wrong.

Ty broke the board. As punishment, he and his t-rex were deleted. he's had to recreate himself. for whatever reason, he was not reincarnated as a republican.

The board voted Ty off. He got pissed and deleted all his posts. Now he shows up as this sock.

During the great Board crash of April '04, the original Ty seems to have been completely erased from the Matrix. However, like Agent Smith in II and III, Ty seems to have spawned new, different Tys. One has some bizarre purple whacked out loping dino avatar and the other is a monstrosiTY. There could be others. Whatever you do, don't let him put his hand into your chest.

edited to add that although I was late, I like my explanation the best.

But they probably did show who was involved and at least would provide a good starting point for the paper trail.

Nor did those contracts call for payments to UN officials to overlook Saddam's actual use of the money.
Am I missing something? This isn't about fraud, right, it's about UN officials taking payoffs to overlook Iraq/Saddam's abuse of the oil-for-food program. It's not like we don't have better charges against Saddam that fraudulent misuse of Oil-for-food money.

I think it is about kick-backs and bribes to UN officials. Maybe that doesn't meet the technical definition of fraud, but it is corruption if not some sort of crime.

This has nothing to do with charges against Saddam. This has to do with the UN, which pushed the sanctions idea for so long, but administered the oil-for-food program so that the people of Iraq could still buy food and medicine with oil money, and so SH couldn't use that oil money for prohibited purchases. The fraud lies in the fact that many, many UN officials, as well as government people from the anti-invasion countries, were siphoning off billions of that money to line their own pockets. If, in fact, the program was run for the stated purpose, then that was money taken from the Iraqis' food and medicine funds.
After listening to cries of "we've murdered a million Iraqi children" during the sanctions, I just think this is rich. It confirms for me the total venality of those countries and institutions who wanted to appear to be opposed to a war on humanitarian grounds - they were, in fact, more concerned that their theft from the Iraqi people might be slowed.
These are the people to whom Kerry would like to grant veto power over our actions.
