* Yes, I am cognizant of the fact that the phrase "jump the shark" has jumped the shark.
Wow.....Just saw the tape of the episode since I missed it on Sunday.

Knew that it was coming, but shit. One bullet for the thank you, two bullets for the fuck you.

Oh well. Now that Ad's gone, we're out of consistent eye candy - other than whatever street ho that Tony happens to pick up.

Personally, I'm waiting for Carmella to bed down with another guy - maybe the priest this time....

I used to take shots at Paigow for getting judgmental. Then one day it dawned on me - if people didn't make biting observations from their own biases, fuck... there would be a goddamned funny syllable on this whole board.

Ranting is sort of walking the plank. You lay the comments out there knowing sombody's going to filet your stuff. But if nobody says anything original, even if its bad, the board dies.

* Yes, I understand you're firing off partly tongue-in-cheek.

Question: Are you retarded?

I was making fun of the fact that he used the phrase, "Don't go there," which has only been used (after 1995) by the dorkiest of dimwits, dummy.

How in the hell was I too divine that from your comment? I didn't read the initial post. I just read your reply, which did not include the header "Emphasis on bold type."

I figured the oroginal poster had bolded the phrase "Don't go there."

Well, that'll be the end of my harrumphing for the day. I know when things aren't going to go well, so I think I'll point the boat back to shore and sit this one out.

Speaking of alcohol aided unreality trips, when exactly did Rupert from Survivor turn into Ray Jackson from "Bloodsport" (a/k/a Ogre from "Revenge of the Nerds")?

It wasn't loyalty to Tony that made the decision, it was like Henry Hill said at the end of Goodfellas, the fucked thing is having to be a regular guy- you know that was going through Chris' head watching that dad cart his mess around. (although they couldn't have kids- right?).

Plus, her drug problem and really the FBI problem were Chris' fault. It's like Days of Wine and Roses, but with a quicker ending.
It was fun -- although I disagree with mr.dangerfield (I know -- you all are shocked. Shocked!) about the interest-piquing level of the Adriana subplot. I think she's great. (RIP) The FBI really had her between a rock and a hard place. She didn't want to be a rat -- I think she would have been happy living the mob life with Chris, had it not been for Danielle (Fairuza Balk, we hardly knew ye). She was just so hosed. I thought it was a nice touch that the FBI agent wanted to delude herself that Adriana had gone on the lam.

By the way, I don't recognize the latest avatar. But I assume it is a Dave of some sort. Given that game one of the NHL finals are tonight, here's one for you to consider using: Dave Andreychuk

Apropos of nothing, I think that Dave was the snake-owning-naked-in-bed-with-gwnc Leaf (he was in Toronto in the early-mid 90s). For the record, she has denied that the player was a "-chuk."

Guilt, bay-bee, guilt. I also love the way the feds sat on her request for a lawyer. "Gosh, they must just be real busy."

In other news, Sunday's episode resolved a dispute between Mrs. NB and I about the Mystery that is Carmella. One of us thought that Carm was outraged by Tony's infidelity, and wanted out because she didn't love him any more. This person also thought that Carm wanted out because she didn't like what Tony did for a living -- sort of a realization that he was a bad person.

The other person thought that what really bothered Carmella was that she could no longer plausibly deny Tony's affairs when drunken Russian women began calling the house. And that she really didn't care about what he did so long as she had a nice car, nice house, and classy outfits. And that if she really wanted to leave Tony, there was no reason why she couldn't.

After the spec house arrangement, now the first person realizes what the deal is. Look for Father Phil to start visiting again.

Game, set, match.

That was pretty smart, using your kayak to get to work yesterday morning after you couldn't get your truck out of the carport because of all the water...

Airline pricing rant

So last week, Continental announces fare hikes because of fuel costs. The same day a stupid Texan looked around at oil prices, figured the fare hike was here to stay and bought her tickets for the fourth of july weekend, even though they were $40 higher than they had been the day before. Today, Continental says the fare hike didn't work and lowered the price again.

Damnit.

I think Carmela is the best -- well, the most complex -- character on the show (although Diet Tony would probably win that dubious award had he been around each season). Of course she knew all along what the "deal" was; however she did not bargain for that part of the "deal" that was the "in your face" infidelity. I think part of that bargain was that his affairs were supposed to be discreet. She also wanted to be able to think of herself as an upright, religious person -- until the Jewish psychiatrist (a brilliant scene -- in my top 5 of the whole series) tells it to her straight, and doesn't let her justify it. She toys with the idea of making a new life on her own, but in the end opts for the comfortable, although shady and not something she's proud of, lifestyle.

Carmela (like all of us) wants her cake, and wants to eat it too. And (again, like all of us) she is unable to, so she just decides to have the cake (or eat it -- not sure how to carry out this metaphor).

Happens. Continental announced a fare increase, and at least two other airlines said, nope, not gonna do it.

It has been attempted by various airlines four or five times now.
