Oh. I found that endearing. But maybe he was just sucking up to me. Subtly.

Because if you're actually friends with the ex, they deserve more than to be completely cut off. And yez, no SO deserves to be lied to, but if nothing is going to happen, they don't need to be told.

1. There are ways to keep up with an an ex who is a friend that don't involve lying. You could say to the SO "I'm going to have a drink with [ex], it's going to be mostly boring catching up but you are more than welcome to come. We're meeting at [place and time.]" If she knows she can show up, she is less likely to be concerned. And if the ex is truly a friend, why shouldn't she be friends with the current SO, especially if the SO is a spouse, not just the flavor of the month? If there is some reason you wouldn't want the SO to be there, maybe you're not quite so sure it won't be harmless or that you completely want it to be harmless. "Transparency" was the word of 2003 and it's a good thing to keep in mind with relationships you want to remain healthy.

2. There is a big difference between "they don't need to be told" and constructing an elaborate lie involving 3rd parties.

3. Sometimes you give up things you have a "right" to do because you love your SO and don't want to risk hurting him or her. As the "Love Chapter" (I Cor. 13, read at many weddings) notes: "[love] is not self-serving" or as another version puts it "[love] isn't always 'me first.'"

I suspect I'm not convincing you. But I do hope your example was merely a hypothetical for intellectual purposes and not something you'd actually do. But this all reminds me that, although it was the prudent thing to not tell my friend's SO about his spending time with the extremely hot woman when he was supposedly away with friends, I shouldn't have been such a chicken and told him I thought he was playing with fire. It's too bad it's so long after the fact that raising it now would be uncomfortable.

Observations on a Friday Afternoon

1. Sebby, it's not just the drugs.

2. I am rethinking my earlier conclusion that Paigow is a Traney (ntt... aw, you know)

3. Fringie's sarcasm meter seems to be broken. This worries me.

4. PJ is still missing a hyphen. It's starting to bug me.

5. SS is really the next PLF.

6. Penske's missing. Something's about to happen...

What's really odd is that it's like people are now pissed off now that he's admitted to lying., even though they all knew he was lying. It's like having to face the fact that your SO was meeting with an ex, so you get more pissed than just not knowing.

I say give him one shot at the hall vote, next year, and be done. he should have nothing to do beyond spectating with baseball ever again. BUt since baseball is a joke, he probably will.

even without beer googles:

I am calling on all booze-loving chemistry-inclined FBers to do this palatably for wine and whiskey.

Query: did Trump film all his scenes in one weekend? E.g., okay--send the camera crew up in the copter, and here are the lines for him to read.

And is that his actual apartment, or the one he's trying to peddle for $30M or whatever? Either way, it's the ugliest thing I've seen since vegas. add some cheap showgirls and it is vegas. JFC . . . talk about wasting a view.

I just don't see why gambling keeps you out, but being a complete bastard like Ruth or Cobb gets you in. Where's the justice here?

It seems to me that you don't understand what being the next PLF connotes. Or you are pissed at Shape Shifter.

Oh and Penske isn't exactly missing. He's here.

How I learned to stop procrastinating and love the law

I will answer Paigow's original question sincerely since I have a big case of loving my job right now.

Do something that enables you to have a measure of creativity or control. Better yet, creativity and control. Granted, I have a somewhat non-traditional practice, but I spend my days doing work I enjoy and I have the freedom (now) to only represent clients I like.

The drudgery of law enables me to do something I enjoy every day -- to talk to people I genuinely like and help them acheive things they could not without my help. Helping people make their dreams come true is a pretty great way to spend your days.
