I need a rug for an entry area from the garage into the house (read: muddy, icy boots, so not an expensive antique turkish rug, though style-wise that would work). Problem is, I need it to be 4.5' square (4' square might work as well). Any suggested resources?

That is a "hard to fit" rug size. I tried West Elm, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and LL Bean.

Only LL Bean has your size.

I'm not sure about the particular size, but for where you are going to put the rug, you might any to try something inexpensive from someplace like the Home Depot or Lowes, both of which carry reasonably priced rugs.

Thanks for doing all that. I checked LLBean ("Bean's," as my parents say) and didn't see square in that size. Not wild about braided, but the cherry floors would prefer that protection to none at all (it's actually half-protected with a 3.5 x 4.5 rug, but it's too crowded for 3 + dog).

You might have more luck looking for a 4 foot round. If that'll work for you.

Your best option is probably to go to a carpet store and have them cut and bind to your exact specs. Lots of selection in terms of pattern and less expensive than you might think. This is apparently a well-kept home decorating secret.

Otherwise, T.J. Maxx or HomeGoods might have a find. I just saw a square rug there the other day that I considered (so it must have been nice), although it was about 3.5. feet.

Thanks, all. I've found a 3'11" square available from Couristan - just need to figure if that will look/be too skimpy for the space. Otherwise, Amazon appears to have some possibilities as well. RP - I did that with runners for my stairs - ouch, expensive! I do have a beautiful oriental-style rug from TJ Maxx in front of my sink. Not cheap (for a kitchen sink rug), but it's been looking good for 6 years, so no complaints.

I need to get a dish drying rack for an area next to my sink that is about 2 feet by 3 feet, although the rack does not need to fill the whole space. I want it to have a place for drying silverware, too. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I actually once bought a pair of jeans at the original Gap in SF, back in the day when they sold only jeans (in about a million different styles), and none in their own brand. They were very cool jeans for my age and the era--bell bottoms with patch pockets. I wore them with my Famolares.

I remember pre-Gap BR. And I had at least one (maybe more) of the t-shirts that RT mentioned. They were almost as popular as the Hard Rock t-shirts in my middle school. Pre-Gap BR was this safari-wear shop (well, not really, but that is what it aspired to be, I guess), with piles of different wild animal t-shirts on tables and lots of khaki. Sort of like a low-end pre-makeover Abercrombie & Fitch (though that had clothes for a much more mature crowd).
