Any clues?
file and print sharing on PC isn't set right. I'm not around a computer to talk you through how to fix it.

I might have figured it out:

If you use Windows XP, you can print to a USB printer connected to an AirPort Extreme Base Station. Just follow these steps:

Click Start and point to Printer and Faxes.
Click Add Printer, follow the onscreen instructions.
Select "Local printer attached to this computer."
Deselect "Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer."
In the "Select the Printer Port" screen, click "Create a new port."
Select Standard TCP/IP Port from the pop-up menu.
Click Next, and follow the onscreen instructions for the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.
In the Printer Name or IP Address field, enter 10.0.1.1. "IP_10.0.1.1" is generated as the port name.
Note: If you are using an alternate IP address range, then you need to enter the IP address that AirPort Admin Utility displays for the base station when connected to it wirelessly.

Select Standard for Device Type, and choose your printer from the list.

Are you suggesting that I buy a naked drive and drop it in an enclosure?

If you want. I would just buy

http://www.gogocity.com/product_deta...O07HDD0459FIRE

or

http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...ct_Code=150842 (if the thought of an OEM drive in a non-WD enclosure makes you twitch). I could not care less about the enclosure because it doesn't have my data on it, so I just want to make sure that my drive is good.

Mac mini

Ok, call me a M O R O N but I just realized who the mac mini's target market is: people whose windows boxes just went BOOM.

I did get the 12incher and likey very much. Set up a wireless network in about 3 minutes.

For $11 more (MSRP), you could get a Lacie, with 25% more capacity and an enclosure. FW 800 too.

I personally can't see much cost savings of a DIY drive + enclosure--certainly not enough to justify the hassle of putting it together.

They aren't really DIY. They have immigrant children who put them together in sweatshops so you don't have to (small hands make it easier). By using the third party enclosures, they can use OEM hard drives and get better quality drives.

Switch

OK, I have been doodling with my powerbook and like it a lot. Still we have the basic PC in the house and I have been able to share most of the files. But now I see what all the hubub is about.

My wife got a new digital camera today.

PC Installation procedure.

Install software.
Reboot computer.
Permit software to register by unblocking norton firewall.
Plug in Camera.
Update drivers.
Change settings so photo software isn't the default viewer.
View pictures.

Total time: 11 minutes.

Powerbook installation procedure:

Plug in camera.
View pictures.

Total time < 60 seconds.

I went so far as to do the following: I walked into compusa looking for a laptop sleeve. Some poor guy was carting in a whole series of opened PC boxes screaming about how his system died after a month. I whispered one word: "Switch."
