Barbie on Crack

Um...is she saying Barbie "asked for it?".

Substance takes a dive, but that's historically the game plan, right?

I don't know how often there is substance on the fashion board, though I've seen it occasionally (thanks Atticus & BRC!). But today there was a lot of extremely funny stuff from several posters over there. I usually laugh at what PP has to say and how she says it. PLF is often funny too. But today ltl/fb was especially funny and I hope she keeps it up. It ended badly though, what with her advising me to do something that would maximize the pain of another woman (hi Fringey), but I guess that's attributable to her status as a self-absorbed marxist murder marcher.

Hello

Thank you. I understand that we approach different subjects with differing levels of expectations. You've now defined yours. Please don't interfere with mine any more. That was the most vapid display of hubris I've seen, and I just want to make sure that no one mistakes it for substantive argument. Please feel free to respond to it.

Just don't speak to me any more.

Please.

One has to have standards.

Man, Ahnuld won. And the day here began with a truly tedious round between you and Ty (did any of us need to read more than the first post from each of you to know what the rest said) followed by Paigow hijacking the board for a battle with socks I'd prefer not to see on the board too often. So Fringey gave us a first class parody, mainly on the other board. Lighten up. Pull that stick out of your ass.

Now let's get a real conversation going. There was a great article in the Boston Globe this morning here: Iraqi Resistance Figher Article

Basically highlights what I think is a fundamental truth: if you show up to impose your will with guns, resistance is natural. Also suggests that blaming the resistance on remnant Ba'ath party elements is inaccurate. So here is my question: can anyone deny that our presence will, at the least, increase the traction of radical Islamic elements in Iraq?

Qurie Tells Arafat He Wants to Quit
Thu October 9, 2003 09:02 AM ET
RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurie told President Yasser Arafat on Thursday he wants to quit his post, Palestinian officials said.
"Qurie told Arafat he will not form the cabinet and doesn't want to be prime minister anymore," one of the officials said.

The officials said Arafat wanted to dismiss Interior Minister Nasser Youssef, who would have security powers, and that Qurie opposed the move.

Once the big one hits, there'll be No Davis counties left

spree map of where Davis won and lost-

I always thought California was mainly Dem/Rep on a north south line, but for this issue it was coastal/inland. I know the recall question doesn't directly equal lib/con, but still this is stark.

isn't your coastal/inland distrinction equally an urban/rural distinciton. The counties that voted against the recall seemed to be concetrated around SF/Oakland, LA and San Diego.

sure. it was just surprising. when we out here speak of Calif. it always assumed a north/south break with the exception, of course, of SF/Oakland. I have an aunt/uncle that are the most strident libs I have ever known, they live in Palm Desert. I guess I just assumed the liberal mind set spread inwardly from the sea all the way to the edge of the desert, and up to just north of Santa Barbera. I was wrong. The Palm desert gated communities should have been a tip off.

Puhleeeeeeeeeeeeze. If you mean "natural" in the sense of a statistical distribution, than yes, some people will be more likely to fight Americans than they were to fight Saddam. Some will be less likely. But Christ, I'll bet the Germans lost more soldiers in France in the first 5 months of the WWII occupation than we've lost in Iraq in the first 5 months.

In France.

Not to downplay the loss of one precious life of an American soldier, but of course "resistance" is natural for some portion of a large population.

I'm sure the radical Islamic elements will get a bit of traction too. We just need to make sure they are our radical Islamics a la Saudi Arabia so it doesn't turn into another Iran.

Hello

Are you implying some sort of lack of fighting ability on the part of the people of France? Your accusations are disgusting, offensive, chavinistic and completely accurate.

Doubtful. The interesting thing is that the more religious areas of Iraq have been fairly peaceful and cooperative. It is in the more secular areas where we are encountering the most resistance.
