Dexter
Btw, if anybody is a fan of the show (or not) and planning to read the latest novel, Dexter in the Dark, let me warn you that it sucks ass.
Anybody have any book recommendations for me? I know we've been through this before but I like mysteries and you can assume I've read or tried to read most of the mystery series so stand-alone book recommendations are especially welcome.

My dad gave me The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly a while ago and I really liked it.
I am currently reading the latest by Alice Sebold. I am not liking it nearly as much as I liked The Lovely Bones.

Did you already read The Shadow of the Wind? LINK
It is sort of a mystery and it is well written. Somewhere around halfway through it became a real page-turner for me at least.
I'm still reading Jonathan Safran Foer and Nicole Krauss books. Made it through Everything is Illuminated (then watched the movie) and I'm reading The History of Love right now. Both are good, though not as gripping for me as Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was. That one is now in my reread pile. None are mysteries, exactly, but they all have multiple storylines that converge at some point and involve pieces that need to be fit back together.

I am reading The Leopard, by Giuseppe de Lampedusa. It's excellent (and not hefty, unlike many of the books I recommend).
As for Italian authors, do not bother under any circumstances to read Umberto Eco's The Mysterious Flame Of Queen Loana.

I just finished the latest Nooteboom, "Lost Paradise", and it was quite good. Other good recent reads have included "Under the Glacier" by Haldor Laxness and "Arabian Days and Nights" by Mahfouz. None of them are mysteries per se, but all have some strong elements, elements that sneek up on you, too. If you've done the series, I assume you've read Auster's New York Trilogy?

The Leopard is one of my all-time favorites. Great book. I enjoyed Queen Loana, though it's not one of his best. Try Baudolino for better Eco (Name of the Rose, too, but that's a very well known book).

Did I loan you that (after having been loaned it by a friend at prior job), or is it just a big coincidence that you read it too? It looks like he has maybe written at least one other book, but the other one(s) hasn't been translated. Bummer.
In any event, I second the recommendation.

Hot or Psycho Killer?
Jonathan Rhys Myers. I can't decide if I think he's really hot or if I think he looks like he wants to kill me.

I will take 3xG's remarks up with him off-line, but the rest of you should not be fooled by what he says here about Queen Loana. It is a regurgitation of a bunch of stuff Eco read as a kid, complete with lots of pictures -- cool pictures, granted -- but it is not a novel, and it lacks many of the characteristics of a novel that most of us like, things like a believable plot and plausible characters.

Did I say it was a novel?
For a Pynchon fan, you're a bit of a stick in the mud.

Back in April, you said "I think he's too pretty.... like he looks like he'd use more products to get out of the house than I do." and that you couldn't see what people saw in him in Match Point.

Did she say anything in May? Because (as I'm sure you know) April is notorious for being the month in which you do and say things you didn't mean to.
He looks creepy.

He's decidedly less pretty in that picture.
I still can't figure it out. It's like I want to think he's attractive, but I can't.

I found him very attractive as a young Henry VIII. And creepy, somewhat, but he was much cleaner (in general) as Hal. I don't like him in the most recently posted pic.
Now, is he more fuckable than Tim Riggins or Jordan Catalano? Hmmmmmmm. I think not, because he seems evil.
