I wish I could say it wasn't that bad, but man it wasn't good

Don't forget the subtle quote from (who was it? Diane Keaton?) while running off the stage, that the 2 worst things in America today are NOT steroids in sports and something else GWB said in his state of union thing that I didn't watch.
Oh, and we forgot Uma, who looked good even though I don't like her much.

Don't know about the flags, but Mike Rowe settled with Microsoft for an XBox and some training. Wimp. http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/interne....ap/index.html
A Microsoft spokesman, however, conced that the 25-page letter informing him he was committing copyright infringement, and threatening legal action was "admittedly maybe impersonal." Assholes.

I think it is standard when a Congressman, Federal Judge, or President dies. It doesn't seem like it couldn't be all of that, or they'd never get up all the way.
Anyway a Federal Judge died today, so maybe that's it.

I speak on behalf of Sean Penn. He NEVER wins major awards, especially if Hollywood has anything to do with it. They always nominate him because he's too good to overlook entirely, but they never let him win. Before Mystic River stated getting nominations, he's had three Oscar nominations, three Golden Globe nominations, two nominations at Cannes (he won for She's So Lovely, two Independent Spirit awards (he won for Dead Man Walking, two SAG nominations, four Venice Film Festival awards (he won three, acting for 21 Grams, one for Hurlyburly, directing for 11'9"01, the other nomination was for directing The Crossing Guard). They don't like him in Hollywood. He's been too much of a pain in their collective asses for years, and he's never needed them.
His performance in Mystic River is probably one of the top ten performances of any actor, male or female, that I've ever seen. Russell Crowe (who invited the GOP governor of Texas to his wedding) was damned good, but Penn was better.

Mine, too (based only on stills - I didn't watch)
I liked Cate Blanchet's dress best - Charlize's pale yellow just struck me as washed out and floppy, though I like the pretty, floaty pastel thing, generally. I liked how JLo did it better, though - tangerine is a hard color to wear, but she can, and she looked great (also good that it wasn't outrageous and her hair was ... normal looking, for a change). Jennifer Garner just seems unable to look good in an evening gown - not sure if it is her or if she should just fire the hell out of her stylist, but she ends up in the worst looking dresses (at least on her). Patricia Clarkson did the "pretty chiffon" thing best of all, though - that was a gorgeous dress. Interestingly, with the whole "floaty soft bias cut" dress that so many people opted for, I think a lot of actresses have gotten too skinny to wear it (see: Evan Rache Wood, Holly Hunter). Bias cuts look good because they cling to curves. If they cling to bone (or even well defined muscle, really), then they make you look like a dessicated dead body under a sheet at the morgue.
Gwen Stephani looked terrible. No one looks good in capped sleeves. On an intellectual level, I understand that some fashionistas like her because she wears wacky experimental things, but it just doesn't do it for me. I liked her little feathered bag, though. (Had nothing to do with what she was wearing, but alone it was cute.) Now, Jamie Lee Curtis looked pretty good in white - age appropriate, showed off still good cleavage, and a pretty cool necklace. Diane Keaton looked better than she usually does - but that is saying almost nothing, and she still managed to look both frumpy and pathetically wannabe cool.
I think Gwen has to beat Scarlett for worst looking overall, but, yeah, that nude dress was pretty stupid looking, as was Evan Rachel Wood's (bad, bad saggy fit). Note to any of you who find yourselves accepting awards in front of Joan R: if you don't know what you're doing, go with something safe (see: Sophia Coppola).
I agree with you, Slave, I don't know what was up with Zellwegger's dress - she isn't nearly as chunky as that made her look, the top is just cut really, really badly for her somehow.
In the still I saw of Depp and girlfriend, they are both shooting "Blue Steel" at the camera. Pretty goddamn funny, entirely apart from whateverthefuck she has on.

Bottom line - in this day and age, a Best Actor/Actress Oscar is never going to be given to someone who no-shows the ceremony.

She looked fucking spectacular. One of the best of the night.
edited to add: I also though that Mary-Louise Parker looked fantastic, and her joke about her boobs was pretty funny (she thanked her infant son for how good they looked in her dress). Not sure what Crudup was thinking: Claire Danes has nothing on Ms. Parker.

Just no sense. A couple of weeks ago she appeared on "The View" sans gloves. Friends told me that her hands looked fine.
Dua(did I stress enough that I heard this from friends?)lit

I was always convinced she has body image issues - hence the omnipresent gloves and high turtlenecks.
But she got naked in the old folks movie, so I guess its just her trademark look.

People don't like to be reminded that there are places to live that do not require a tolerance for snow/bitter cold. Makes them feel like failures...
On a brighter note, here's the photo I snapped of you during your command performance at the Vatican:
Not too shabby for a lizard...

An Oscar-worthy performance:
