my fave biglaw phone call is some guy in another office calls me "Hank, I need you to drop everything and look at the patent list for the acquisition. we need the help now!" while he was talking, I had looked at the biglaw internal phone book and saw he was an associate, as was I. "I can't help you today, i'm very busy with partner X's very important matter." " Hank, you're a third year associate, right? I'm fifth year, so you better do this!"
I didn't know bait fish had hierarchy.

I just have to say (and I tried to hold it in last time), that those are some of the ugliest sneaker-shoe things I've ever seen.

I saw a man today wearing a suit and a navy wool sweater tied around his neck OVER the suit. Not only was it ridiculous, but also impractical. A cape would have been more appropriate, for heaven's sake.
Anyway, I thought of Thurgreed. Fondly.

I believe that the proper term is cute-ugly, but I need for ABBA to confirm. I'm as surprised as anyone at how much I like them. They do not have classic good looks. So they are no Carolyn Bassette. Perhaps the Sarah Silverman of the sneaker-shoe world??

I like them. I am not surprised that frumpy old Thurgreed does not. We'll see who gets major YouTube air time first -- you and your fashion forward yet causal footwear or Thurgreed and whatever boring-ass footwear he is sporting these days.

mmmphf. I find the WSJ Lawblog comment to be marginally better than ATL's at best.
with the exception of that FIRST! stupidity.

If you want to convey cute-ugly, maybe you should say they are the pekingese or pug of the sneaker-shoe world.

A cake decorated as an enormous stack of benefit enrollment forms?

If you can get them in LA, bring in a big bowl of Honeycrisp Apples.

That is a fantastic suggestion. Best eating apple ever and in season right now, for a limited time! Fringey, I'd be surprised if you couldn't get them at Whole Foods near you.
Has anyone here ever tried to bake with them? I don't expect they'd be ideal for baking but I'm curious.
ETA I am eating one right now. I hope it will stave off the inevitable foray into halloween candy. (If I just open the cellophane on the bag of full-sized Reese's cups, I had might as well go right to car to head to Target.)
