Did Bush impersonate Blanco last week, August 29, on NPR ????

NPR: Does this mean the emergency plans are working? Maybe we should go over what the plans were?

Blanco: We have to hold tight, let it happen then pick up the pieces after it's all over.

Preparedness? check! Well done Louisiana Demos.

Blanco esta Roja?

RecentlyLouisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco [travelled] to Cuba where she had a lobster dinner with Fidel Castro. Governor Blanco's meeting with Castro has come under fire by Louisianans for failing to meet with dissidents, call for democratic reforms, release of political prisoners, freedom of the press, and respect for human rights.

Maybe he helped her with advice on how to get a mission accomplished:

EFFOURTS by Hollywood actor Sean Penn to aid New Orleans victims stranded by Hurricane Katrina foundered badly overnight, when the boat he was piloting to launch a rescue attempt sprang a leak.

IPenn had planned to rescue children waylaid by Katrina's flood waters, but apparently forgot to plug a hole in the bottom of the vessel, which began taking water within seconds of its launch.

Ty, SHP, Sidd et al, please tell me this was really an effourt at comique relief?

Here's my list, it is narrower this time:

For CJ:

Scalia. Period.

My top ten picks for new justice, in order of most likely to least likely:

1. Janice Rodgers Brown
2. Edith Jones
3. Michael Luttig
4. tie: one of
(i) Sam Alito;
(ii) Michael McConnell; or
(iii) Emilio Garza
7. Ted Olson
8. Edith Clement
9. Ken Starr
10. John Ashcroft

In the case of two consecutive nominees getting shot down I predict the nuclear option, Orrin Hatch.

Anyone else care to go on record?

As for the suggestions of the Dim witted Senators lil Chuckie Schumer and drunken womanizer Dodd that the old cowgirl un-retire, SFTU and show some respect!

Yes. You invented wild-ass wrong S. Ct. guesses.

As tasty as Scalia as CJ is, it would be politically an absolutely asinine move, all the more so now.

1) Too much of a record.
2) He gets put through the wringer, diminishing (further) his support and power
3) Bush's approval rating is at an ebb right now--now's not the time to see who starts abandoning ship with 2006 in mind.

Guess your celebratory pic of Bush landing in Mobile didn't completely erase the memories of the dead people in the streets, eh, Penske? Pity, that.

Targeting state and local officials is certainly part of it, Penske, but you're only half way there. For complete absolution of the federal executive branch, you've simply got to blame the victims.

C'mon, Penske. Enough with this feckless, pussified, "states rights" argument. That shit's so old, it feels like it hasn't even been GOP orthodoxy since Goldwater. Post some photoshops of people dying in their attics. Be a man.

I disagree. He is probably the most qualified guy up there for the job. He would hold the Republican vote and outwit the Dimwits in the confirmation hearings (he is smarter than they). If the Dims want to flail at him, go for it, Bush's legacy will be complete.

Thomas would be a juicy scenario to watch unfold, but absolutely assinine on the substantive level.

Given your unadulterated love for Scalia, it's somewhat odd to see you declare Thomas' theoretical nomination as substantively "assinine." It's difficult to imagine a justice that follows Scalia's judicial philosophy more assiduously.

What does this mean?

The point of the post is to show how one of the critics of Bush and the Feds, who was in a direct position (one of the most primary positions) to adminster the state's disaster planning and mitigate the damage, exhibited a cavalier disregard for the obligations of her office prior to the brunt of the damage occuring. You don't watch and watch and then pick up the pieces. You prepare. And when things go wrong, a leader accepts the attendant responsibility, as Bush did, and the three stooges, Blanco, Landrieu and Nagin have not and will not. They are democrats. there is no concept of personal responsibility. It all falls on the paternalisitic nanny state and its leader. As long the Republicans are hold the leadership.

Finally, if you want me to say that people who had the means to stay and ignored the evacuation order are in part to blame for the resultant suffering they incurred, there you go. Assumption of the risk applies. If you want me to post a picture of dead poor people in order to satirize the lack of personal responsiblity of poor or non-ambulatory people withoiut the means to get out, I won't do it, because I think the government had and has a primary responsibility to the least able amongst us to assist. In that regard I will post the below pic and ask you to explain to me and the poor people who died, on behalf of your comrade, Nagin, why?

I am not looking for someone who follows his philosphy, I am promoting someone who is an active intellect who has a well thought out judicial philosophy. Thomas is a fine as a rubber stamp, he's not a leader.
