I suppose. But I suppose if I were marrying someone who insisted on money dances for cultural reasons, I would not put my own money into the bucket for my guests to give right back. I'd double the tackiness and ask guests to contribute to those less fortunate. Kind of a "leave a penny/take a penny" approach.
Marry me. Unless you already are.

The weather gods are going to want retribution. Summer scares me.
Arrange for me to be in Houston, please. Thanks!

Although BRC doesn't have you covered, Miss Manners does.

excerpt: "How do we put on the invitation that there will be Dollar Dances with the bride? I've been at weddings where guests were caught without the cash to participate." . . . .

. . . .Miss Manners is sorry to have to tell them all that she does not have a gracious and tactful extortion plea in her files, and that their qualms about sounding tacky, greedy and crude are fully justified. Only gimme-pigs regard their wedding guests as cash cows."
At least Miss Manners and I will have each other in our joyless pathetic little lives.

Why don't you develop a wedding-screening mechanism a la Sebby?

Instead of using the enclosed reply card, go old skool, and handwrite an acceptance. "Notcasesensitive accepts with great pleasure the invitatation of Mr. and Mrs. Fringe Benefit to the marriage of Miss longtimelurker and Mr. Burger. Please note that this acceptance is contingent on there being no money dance, money tree, or other money-related events, and on the bar remaining open through dinner. Please advise as to whether these terms will be met."

fwiw, I've never seen a dollar dance and I don't think they exist in Canada. And we are a happy people. Generally. I'm very happy today, if that means anything.

The only wedding I've ever been to with a dollar dance took this approach. The bride and groom specifically told their friends that there would be no dollar dance, just in case anyone got any funny ideas. The groom's mother sabatoged their efforts by stuffing wads of cash in everyone's hands and announcing a dollar dance. My minute and a half in the groom's arms was pretty much dedicated to listening to various ways that he was contemplating killing his mother.

ETA: The bride in the wedding I performed on New Year's Day swore by the Anti-bride series.

Of course not. Who's going to remember to bring $.80 in change to a wedding?

Are you going to have a problem with registering at Planned Parenthood? I'm all kitchened/toweled/sheeted up.

The loonie dance only makes an appearance if the bridesmaids are smashed.

It's probably just better living through chemistry.
