For the record, I would never say "this is Sebby in 30 years".

SOFIA, BULGARIA - Bulgarian doctors tested a man's blood-alcohol level five times before accepting it was 0.914 – nearly twice the amount considered to be life-threatening.

The 67-year-old man landed in hospital on Dec. 20 after a car knocked him off his feet in the southern Bulgarian city of Plovdiv, police and doctors said Tuesday.

A breath test indicated blood-alcohol levels so high that police thought their equipment was broken, because the man remained conscious and talked with them.

The head of Plovdiv police, Col. Angel Rangelov, said five separate lab tests taken the same day confirmed the man's blood-alcohol level of 0.914.

A blood-alcohol level of 0.55 is considered potentially fatal.

In comparison, the Bulgarian man's level was more than 11 times higher than the legal blood-alcohol limit for drivers in Canada, which is 0.08.

The man, who has not been identified, was reported to be in stable condition after being treated for head injuries.

Well at least the crap won't have cork taint.

Personally, I really really like Pinot Noirs and drink it every chance I get. It's just that there are so many bad ones out there. And not really any very good California ones. The Merry Edwards which was voted winery of the year by someone for something, was pretty OK. One must stick to the experts in Oregon.

I was distinguishing pinot noir that is Burgundy (i.e.: from Burgundy) from pinot noir that is not. The stuff that is not is of significantly poorer in quality to that which is, notwithstanding the hype about how US wines are just as good as the French now. Or, what Ollie said.

FWIW, "white Burgundy" tends to be less over-oaked than CA chardonay, too, which I like. (Not all white Burgundy is chardonnay, actually, but most of it is.) Chablis is a subset of white Burgundy - all Chablis is chardonnay, but not all chardonnay is Chablis. Chablis doesn't travel well, though, so it's not really worth discussing unless you are in Chablis.

Like, when you go to a GA outing and there is some newber (of course this woudl have last happened in 2003), and you know they are thinking, "I wonder if he has bellybutton stubble"? Or "If i accidentally grazee his arm, will it be like if I went spring skiiing in shorts and a tee and had a yard sale?" Thats gotta be really weird.

The pretentious dufus at Slate had that part of his little ramble exactly right - pinot noir can go horribly wrong, but when it is right it is best described as transcendent, and nothing else is as wonderful. But you go through a lot of crap to find the stuff that is amazing. Cab is a much safer bet - it will never be amazing, but it will be pretty good 99% of the time.

BR(I was ruined by a really, really fine grand cru when I was young, and have been relentlessly disappointed by wine ever since - compared to that, the difference between spanish table roja and Saint-Emilion is negligible. So I've sort of given up)C

I'm starting to wonder why you think Sideways would be annoying.

Yesterday I wasn't sure I would see Sideways.

Today, having seen that mere mention of the movie results in everyone's inner wine snob coming out to play, and to express their personal tastes as if they were gospel-given facts, and to tell us how no Chateauneuf-du-Pap can possibly be as good as the bottel of Chateauneuf-du-Pap that they sipped in the Loire Valley at sunset while sitting next to the Pap himself....

Well, let's just say that this movie won't make my Netflix list.

Sadly, it's been a while since I've had a chance to really shit in Atticus's bed. I've been settling for Sebby's soft alcoholism of middle age.
Not to worry. A shit in Atticus's bed is a shit in Atticus's bed. I think it only takes like a half bottle of wine to get the job done. I don't think there are gradiations of Attican Bedshitting. Though, s I recall on Flower Day, I got an im saying he was gonna take a "huge dump" on Atticus's bed, so maybe I am wrong..

That's a real shame, because every little thing you've ever posted has been Absolutely Amazing, Completely Riveting and/or Piss-Your-Pants Funny. Why be so cruel as to withold your genius from your legions of adoring fans? Have a little self-confidence next time, and let us see those witty (so witty!) retorts, jokes (), and mocks of some sort (ooooooooh - burn!) that we're dyin' for.

Should be obvious - no one likes to see themselves mocked.

Honestly, I know jack shit about wine. I just know what I like and what I don't, and I've had some good burgundy that made a strong impression on me, and otherwise haven't found much worth getting excited about. I generally think people who are all into wine are silly, but about twice I've had an amazing bottle that makes me recognize that, rarely, there can be something extraordinary about it. I think people who get all involved in their wine "knowledge" are self-evidently assjacks, though I did, at some point, have enough interest to figure out the difference between place names and grape varieties. (Which isn't intended as a snarky comment, because it isn't as obvious as it sounds.)

But I firmly maintain that anyone who used the term "oneophile" as anything other than a taunt should be bitchslapped.

Specifically, a taunt of dtb.

At the same time, anyone who slurps the wine in restaurant, posing as a wine taster, (other than the sommelier) should also be bitch slapped. Bitch, please. It's a wine drinking not a wine tasting. Drink it, don't slurp it.
