Fox News Sunday Rebuttal to Ted "I hate America" Koppel

Fox News Sunday is a great show. I like it better than Meet the Press, which is also good, though.

Oops, I pulled a Chinaski. If you throw out old cookies you don't end up eating them by mistake.
To the best of my recollection, I have never watched any of those shows, or regretted that omission in the least.

You might also like Fox News Watch. It is alot like Reliable Sources on CNN. Both are good programs.
Special Report with Brit Hume is excellent, also. Your World with Neil Cavuto is a good business show, too.
eta: I've never watched any of those shows, either, and likewise I do not regret this at all. -- T.S.

I was just trying to figure out what it was that you think isn't torture. I gather sodomy is torture in your book, though.

How do you know this is true? And are they talking about Iraqi detainees or OBL and the Taliban?
|
I don't "know" that it is "true," but it was reported in an apparently respectable source. It might be sourced to Armitage, which wouldn't surprise me. I have seem reference lately to the fact that Powell and his aides are distancing themselves from the rest of the administration even more openly.

BTW - I said a few things about what I would like to do to OBL and Taliban after 9/11. Did you?
|
Doubtless. And yet I would expect better behavior from a prosecutor or a judge.

You are missing out. Those are good shows. I think if you watched them, you would realize it.

There are many good shows on TV, and yet life is short.

Who is this "Our Lord" guy? Is it the one who lets you eat pork or the one that lets you kill those who eat pork?
And if "Our Lord" didn't want us to eat pork, why the fuck did he make fried/hickory smoked/broiled/roasted/braised pigs taste so darn good?
How interesting, though, that you think I am so powerful that I can bring tears to the eyes of "Our Lord."

Nah, I don't think I've ever done that.

Unfair. Clubby's definition of racism requires me to hold some belief about her having characteristics other than objectively true physical ones. I wouldn't be a racist for observing that black men are, on average, dark-complected, would I?
BTW, I'm sure you'll see her for Mother's Day. Tell her I said "hi." I'm a sucker for women named "Mama" almost as much as I am for those named "Maura."

Is mathematical ability an objectively true physical characteristic?

No, but math is hard.

Are you saying that mathematical ability is not a physical characteristic of someone? Are physical characteristics only that which one can see with their eyes?

Yes and no, respectively.

No, because the perspective you, Clubby and Bilmore urge is that as long as we don't fly airliners into buildings, we've got the high ground.
Look, there's something about prisons. There is a code of behavior we expect of people when they've got someone incapacitated and at our mercy. We broke that code. Being incredibly upset that we did that while supposedly liberating the country from tyranny is not a loss of perspective --- if anything, it's a superior sense of perspective.
A corrections officer I met once told me that every morning he looks into the mirror before heading off to work and says, "As punishment, not for punishment." It reminds him that in our society --- or any civilized society, which should include the CPA --- people are being punished by being imprisoned. Otherwise, you start to think that a prison is a venue in which more deserved punishments get imposed. They're not there to be punished; they're punished by being there, nothing more. Otherwise your thinking leads to looking the other way when your fellow man is being shivved or raped, because, shit, he should have stayed out of prison by not committing a crime in the first damn place.
Oh, then there's the fact that "resistance fighters" need to be incapacitated, not punished. We draw the distinction between criminals and combatants for a reason that's ultimately self-interested. Your inability to grasp this makes Jesus cry.
|
A part of me agrees with you, but another part of me thinks that we will not be able to secure the middle east or control terrorism without getting our hands dirty. I'm very torn on this. I'm not advocating prisoner abuse, but I also do not believe we can afford to provide the full portfolio of American constitutional protections.
