I loved it when she said the other rich people "have no class." And no, I don't think that one Gilligan is retarded. Stupid, yes. Retarded, no.

I actually thought the show was amusing.

Buying Clothes "by appointment"

I just got a call from someone from a company -- Thomas James? -- that sells men's clothes by appointment and wanted to come to my office to show me what they have.

My first inclination was to ask if she was hot. I'm willing to try on clothes for her if she's hot.

But then I considered how embarassed I would be if people thought I was enough of a snob to have a private shopper.

Does anyone know anything about this? Are the clothes nice? Prices good? Service good?

And are the reps hot?

So did I, actually. Though I, too, wondered if that Gilligan was retarded. When they identified the "millionaire" couples as "under $3 million" and "over $500 million," respectively, I started to hum "one of these things is not like the other, one of these things does not belong ..."

On the Public Service front: https://secure.commentworks.com/ftc-tsr/

Comment on the FTC proposal to create a safe-harbor for pre-recorded bulk messages from telemarketers/sellers with whom you have an "existing business relationship" (which, I note from personal experience, companies deem to include "you've probably seen our ads," "I think you walked by one of our sales reps once" and "you established a relationship with us when you asked us not to call again").

These telemarketing assholes are bugging me again. I am getting desperate to plug up the prior business & charity loopholes. Goddamn charities. I am considering putting this on my answering machine (pursuant to 16 CFR 310.4(b)(1)(iii)(A)):

"If this is a telemarketing call, then, notwitstanding any prior or existing business relationship, I do not wish to receive any outbound calls from you or the seller or charitable organization on behalf of which you are calling."

If Darwin is right, she'll just die out, no?

I have tried telling charities that I do not like solicitation calls and that I'll only consider making a donation if they send me a letter. Sometimes I add that if they call me again I definitely will not make a donation (or buy anymore tickets if it's something like the symphony). At least some of them do listen to this.

Yesterday a local rep theater asked us for a $1000 donation. WTF? We have never donated money to them, and we subscribed to six plays (in crappy seats) for the first time ever this season. If they'd asked for $200 they might've gotten something, but starting at a grand was a mistake. When they said "well, if not that much, a lesser amount" it was sort of like asking someone you just met for a blowjob, and then after she gets pissed off saying "well, how about just a hug?"

Do you mean Tom James?
I don't know anyone who has ever used them, but if their ad is any indication - meh. Didn't Slave or someone ask about this before?

I may have responded to this before, as I bought a suit from them 5-6 years ago.

And yes, there is something to be said about a good looking blonde measuring your...ahem...inseam in your office.

Does she use a tape measure or does she do it by palms, the way they used to measure horses?

Chandler: He said he was going to do my inseam, then he ran his hand up my leg, and then there was definite...
Ross: What?
Chandler: ...Cupping.
Joey: That's how they do pants! First they go up one side, they move it over, then they go up the other side, they move it back, and then they do the rear. What? Ross, Ross? Would you tell him? Isn't that how they measure pants?
Ross: Yes, yes it is. In prison!

News for spinsters

Census Bureau figures for 2003 show that a third of men and nearly a quarter of women ages 30 to 34 have never been married, nearly four times the rates in 1970.

It’s further evidence that young people are focusing on education and careers before settling down and beginning families, experts say.

Data from the Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey released this week show that the age at which someone typically married for the first time rose from 20.8 for women and 23.2 for men in 1970 to 25.3 and 27.1, respectively, last year.

In 1970, only 6 percent of women 30 to 34 had never been married; the figure was 23 percent in 2003. The rate for never-married men in the same age group rose from 9 percent to 33 percent.

Among younger women, 36 percent of those 20 to 24 had never been married in 1970; last year it was 75 percent. Among men in that age group, the change was nearly as dramatic: 55 percent in 1970 to 86 percent last year.

Is it just me or does this image make you really horny? Gwinky?

(ETA: you have to hit "refresh" to get the effect. God forbid they make nonstop animated gifs anymore.)

(P.S. ETA: Men, don't trust the supposed 30% who *claim* to get off with no clitoral action. Assume you're with a 70 percenter and keep it moving down there, will ya?).
