I thought pregnant women weren't supposed to dye their hair -- something about the chemicals.

Though if I were married to a loser mooch and pregnant again while Baby #1 was still little, I'd dye my hair, wear all black and hope I would awake from the nightmare I was living.

That poor girl needs a Dr. Phil intervention. I think Dr. Phil is an annoying, fatass master of the obvious, but poor Britney needs some obvious advice.

I think that the problem is with bleaching hair while pregnant. Peroxide issue. Dying darker is a different process and not as damaging (to the hair, so I assume to the body as well). I've never been pregnant, though, so I may not know what I'm talking about here. This should surprise no one.

ETA - If celebrity pregnancies are any guide, usually the mags start claiming baby when blondes start showing their roots.

For those who enjoy such things, savage article from Robin Givhan in the WaPo. She previously savaged Cheney when he wore the ski jacket to the funeral and all people who wear flip flops and 'do-rags anywhere other than the beach/shower and gym, respectively. Good times!

I haven't done any research because I don't plan on dyeing my hair or becoming pregnant, but I thought I had heard that dyeing black was worse due to the chemicals in the black. Maybe I'll do some research and forget about work in this hellish place. I'll get back to you - if you care.

Another person needing an intervention. Dad, has offered a free cruise if she will just gain some weight. He should just send her to the closest anorexia/bulimia clinic instead.

browns are way more natural than blondes. I've dyed my hair most of the various colors in the spectrum and i am sure of this. Britney didn't dye her hair "black" because no one (other than goth kids) dyes their hair black. It is a very dark brown. Whether or not some process was required in order to get her hair dark brown because of the bleach she was using before is another question. but absent the need for some additional process, she could achieve that color using aveda dyes that are not particularly harsh at all. part of the problem for me of going darker instead of lighter is that it damages the hair less, and I need some damage to my hair in order for it to have any body at all because it is so fine.

as an addendum to my prior post, I also think that the dying risk becomes less worrisome after the first trimester, but maybe someone who has actually been pregnant can opine as to this. or do they all have such naturally beautiful hair that they have never dyed?

(I would be salt and pepper already without the help of my hairdresser.)

I'm being totally serious here--she looks hot. I can hardly recognize her. She could still lose some weight in her legs though.

Hair dye

OK, here it is if anyone cares. General consensus is to avoid dyeing hair in the first trimester and if you do have to dye your hair, to highlight instead because any chemicals are absorbed through the scalp and there is less chance of that with highlighting.

Black hair dye. Women who use black hair dye for long periods of time have higher risk of cancer.

Quote:
Much of this controversy began when a study conducted by the American Cancer Society found that women who used black hair dye for more than 20 years had a slightly increased risk of dying from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple myeloma (a bone-marrow tumor that is usually malignant).
Quote:
If you want to be extra cautious you can choose to avoid dark permanent or intermediate hair dyes. In view of the University of Southern California study showing that women who dye their hair 12 times or more each year for a period of 15 years were at a higher risk, you may want to consider dying your hair less frequently, no more than say 6 or 8 times a year. It is also important to keep in mind that although hair dyes may increase the risk of getting bladder cancer, such a risk would represent a relatively small number of cases, since women account for only about 15,000 of the 40,000 new cases of bladder cancer diagnosed each year. (Source: www.webmd.com.)

Also, during my research I saw questions about dyeing gray pubic hairs - which had never occured to me. People do that?

The danger is probably negligible. For better or worse, the kid's organs are already formed. Brit apparently used a dye that came into contact with her scalp, which is what you're supposed to avoid. Highlights are supposedly safer because there is no contact with anything but your hair and those ever-lovely foils. I don't know if the gentleness of the dye to your hair necessarily corresponds with the toxicity of the dye overall ... but Brit strikes me more as an Herbal Essences rather than an Aveda type at any rate.

The fact that her hair was so bleached before is probably the reason the color looks so dense now - bleached hair is very porous. So it absorbs a lot of that color at first, and also lets it go pretty rapidly.

I didn't dye my hair while I was pregnant, but I just used "health concerns" as an excuse to be slovenly.

If you want to win anything this year, you need to be from the southeast (U. Fla, Miami Heat, Carolina Panthers). So I guess it's going to be the Braves, Devil Rays or Marlins.

Ummmm, maybe not (though the Marlins are shockingly good, considering past performance of their roster).

Anyone read these?

The “Lost Girls” books, by graphic novelist Alan Moore, are about three world-famous characters: Wendy, Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz” and Alice from “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” The characters meet one another and have sexual adventures. Wendy not only engages in erotic trysts but also encounters pedophiles.

Moore wrote three separate “Lost Girls” novels in 1995, 1996 and 2005, all featuring Wendy, and some were published by the small U.S. company Kitchen Sink Press. They include drawings by artist Melinda Gebbie of sexual acts that could be considered pornographic, and some of the books were sold in England with an “adults only” warning on their jackets.

“We understand this graphic novel involves characters from the story of J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan & Wendy,” which is, of course, in copyright in the U.K. and EU,” the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children said in a statement about Moore’s book.

The hospital, which was bequeathed the rights to the “Peter Pan” books by Barrie, said: “In order to be published or distributed in these territories, Alan Moore’s title would need our permission or license. From press coverage, we understand it deals with sensitive subject matter which does not initially seem appropriate to be associated with the hospital and with J.M. Barrie’s legacy to us.”

Are you an NFL division-maker? Are they whistling Dixie in Pittsburgh?
