You are SFA on purpose to piss me off. If global (i.e., all over the entire globe, the whole big huge thing) warming causes a bunch of cold, cold water to flow into the enoooooorrrrrrrrmous body of water that significantly influences the temperatures in a portion (i.e., part of, not all of) of the globe, that area will be cooler while the water in the oceans kind of all mixes together. Like, based on pouring a stream of ice water into a bowl full of hot water, you might think that the whole body of water would pretty much instantaneously reach a kind of equilibrium temperature. Thing is,* the oceans are really really big. So, it actually takes a long-ish time for things to get kinda sorted out, especially if the polar ice caps are continuing to melt and blast cold water into the northern-er and southern-er portions of the biiiiiiig oceans.

*I cannot tell you how annoying this phrase is to me. So I am using it on you.

That's it. I'm taking a shower.

But in setting priorities, does the idea that the annual numbers in Zaire and Indonesia appear to be, at present, anywhere from the tens of thousands to the hundreds of thousands suggest a different priority from Iraq, where the annual numbers over the last few years were likely in the hundreds or, at most, thousands?

I have respect for Republicans who are proud of their principles. It's the ones who cling to any shred of respect for their leaders that scare me.
I actually would like my kid's school to use the modified Hogwarts curriculem. To me, Confidence in one's abilty to problem solve is more imortant than actual knowledge.

Who changed the subject?

On a side note, you always seem surprised when I'm gone for periods of time. It has something to do with the use of "they" on this board. When I find myself sucked into that mindset, I have to skedaddle.

There is obviously a difference, just not one that justifies Dean's position.
The difference between Dean and Bush on these questions is fairly overt and substantial, and you guys are morons if you think the way to deal with it is to pretend it doesn't exist. Before Bush, our foreign policy involved much more cooperation with our allies, even in the "unilateral" approach to the Balkans at issue several years ago. No one in a position of responsibility was advocating the sort of approach that the Bushies have taken in the last few years, namely to use our allies when they agree with us and tell them to go f*ck themselves when they don't. If you think "My way or the highway" is the way we should conduct our foreign policy, then vote for Bush. But don't pretend that Dean was secretly with you until he started running for President, or that his views are somehow contradictory.

Huh? Hitler and those under his control most certainly were the only one's turning on the ovens. Are you suggesting the allies had a role in rounding up and exterminating the Jews?

When talking about genocide, the numbers killed in battle in WW2 are usually not the focus, but instead it is those killed in concentration camps.

For those who get to really huge numbers in Iraq, they are counting those killed by our bullets and bombs as well as those killed by the Ayatollah's crew. We certainly can discuss culpability and lay it at his feet, but this is the cost of removing him, not the rationale for incurring that cost.

(talk about changing the subject when you're losing!)

I don't get the distinction.
Help me?
Looks like Ty stole most of my thunder on this one, so all I have to add is if you think Iraq was a humanitarian mission, then truly we must agree to disagree.

It was funnier when Tom Lehrer said it. In 1965.

That's not the "difference" being dicussed. It's Dean's position on B/S v. Iraq.

I read you prior post to say that most of the deaths couldn't be laid at SH's feet. Was this not your intent?

Are you seriously having difficulty understanding her?

Scientists say a wood burning fireplace that draws furnace-heated room air into the firebox actually has an overall cooling effect on a structure and just forces the furnace to work harder, because it consumes the heated air and loses most of that heat up a chimney, radiating very little of it into the room.

Dave Barry says, ha ha ha, that's why you see scientists in front of roaring fireplaces during Miami summers, bundled up against the chill created by their fireplaces.

Now, I like reading Dave Barry as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't say he's won the argument. Would you?

And you wonder why some of us think all of you have an overly simplistic view of the world (e.g., if it is colder than normal in NYC, worldwide temperatures cannot be rising).
