Well, gosh. I'm flattered, but I'll have to take a pass. Not Bob tells me you don't go downtown.

Speaking of freeloading ... my neighbor puts his recycling out in front of my house every collection day. I see his cranberry juice bottles and Bud cans in my bin, and his bag of paper next to mine. I'm pretty sure he also puts his trash in my cart (that sounds dirty). I rarely see his trash bin out in front of his house.

He's never said anything to me about it, and it took me a while to figure out it was him.

We don't get charged for collection based on volume, so this has no real effect on me, but it bugs me nonetheless. I realize that it's just a territorial instinct (every Friday I think of that Curb episode where a neighbor of Larry's became irate that Larry put an apple core in the neighbor's trash bin), but it also irritates me that he freeloads off my labor of dragging the bins back and forth down my driveway. I have to get my hands dirty and make four trips every collection day, and he never does. In his favor, he doesn't have any fucking windchimes, so I can let this go as just something weird that he does.

So my question is this -- how many of you would find this slightly annoying, and why?

Have you checked your trunk for extra junk?

That would annoy me to no fucking end. But, what can you do? If he's otherwise a good neighbor, let it go. You don't want to start a war over something stupid, especially if it doesn't really affect you.

I've often thought how much the recycle guys can know about people- like they know we drink JW Black and Citrus vodka- they know the magazines you read, etc. Sometimes, when the bin is particularly full of bottles, I feel a little embaressed. Maybe your neighbor wants the recycle guy to think YOU have the drinking problem. If that's his motivation, you should be bothered.

On the other hand, maybe, just maybe he wants to minimize the hassle to the recycle guys. Why stop at his house for a half empty bin then at your house for a half empty bin when they could just stop once at your house? If that's his reason, I wouldn't be bugged.

Hank, you have such a warm heart. That's a nice reason. I feel so much better now!

... except if he really wanted to be helpful, he could have offered that I put my recycling in his bin (baybee). Fucking bastard.

While it's pretty silly that the guy won't just sign up for the service on his own, I don't think it would bother me at all. You're going to be lugging those bins back and forth either way, right?

If it really bugs you, maybe you should leave him a note next time and ask him if he wants to split the bill with you? If not, tell him he needs to stay the fuck off your property.

eta: in case anyone thinks I'm serious about the note thing, I'm not.
