Who's defending Sidd? You suggested I posted something homophobic and you were wrong. I didn't endorse the Condi thing in any way -- I'd never heard it before and thought it was bizarre. You were out of line.

Some of them were actually pretty funny -- like "How did Bill and Hillary meet in college? They were both dating the same girl." But that's besides the point. When you constantly use "lesbian" as a way to insult your enemy, it's pretty hard to claim that you don't view "lesbian" as a pejorative term.
Of course, no one would suggest that the right-wing gets just a wee bit uncomfortable seeing a smart, successful, powerful woman and just has to start calling her a lesbian, and virtually every other name in the book, to soothe their own inadequacies.

This conversation is mooot inre Hillary. She's obviously bisexual, having sired a kid with Web Hubbell. I mean come on, its not like Janet Reno was the biological.

Sidd. do you not see the absurdity in this when the day started with a post suggesting the national security advisor is a lesbian?
you don't know me, but I am married to a very powerful woman and am rasing what I hope will be a very powerful young woman. I'm sure the GP is littered with homophobes- I will stipulate to it. i'm not. and I don't think they post here, so be more careful, or not.

Bullshit, Hank. I related a rumor that I thought was bizarre and said I'd never heard it before. Slave is the one who told me I was in an ivory tower.

And Penske doesn't hate gays and the best man at my wedding was a fag and if Club really didn't like queers why does he live in SF? But Sidd attacked me and Club and Penske, i was just wondering why not you too.

For me, the distinction is the same as that between Wonk calling someone a fat (observation) and Sebby calling someone a fat (indictment).
Ty's credentials are solid enough to note a rumor about sexual orientation with the same level of judgment as if he noted that she were a redhead. Meanwhile, you're saddled with the baggage of the party for which you vote. Thanks for playing.

look- I should drop Ty from this. ty's post was cool. i understand it was an "interest piece"
but I'm just making the point be cool about accusing people of broad negative feeling. yes P. hates Hillary. no P. doesn't hate homos. See?

Frankly, I suspect both parties are equally littered with racists, homophobes, etc. This is not a party thing, it's a society thing.

This is the part of the democratic/leftist ethos I find most offensive. It doesn't matter what you say or how you act, as long as you are one of us then you are OK. But if you are one of them, then you are a racist, bigot, homophobe, etc.

Please don't ask them to start posting about Sen. Byrd again. You know they will.

I don't see this as uniquely democratic or leftist but I otherwise tend to agree with you instead of Atticus on your main point here. No guilt by association.
On the other hand, there's something troubling about (e.g.) conservatives who silently abide the use of gay-bashing (a poor shorthand for the effort to make political hay out of the marriage amendment) in an election year. It's not that it makes them homophobes per se, but it smells bad.

It's not just Byrd. Ever heard of Jesse and his travels to Hymie town? Actually, I wasn't even referring to politicians. I'm basing this on experience and, in mine, I can find no dicernable correlation between bigotry and political affiliation, other than those on the right that are bigots tend to be more up front about it, while the left does it politely behind close doors (especially in the Northeast).

I know Ty IRL. The Dems I know who are homophobes are over 60 and/or dead. That may be particular to the Bay Area; I don't know. On the other hand, the GOP itself has made it a campaign issue to prevent gays from getting civil unions the same way blacks and whites got Loving v. Virginia. Look in the fucking mirror, jackass.
