Further proof that DC is in the midwest

Plus, the Wash Post can't even keep up with the DC trends that it has reported on. They've been calling Cafe Atlantico a "cool new nightspot" for about 4 years.

I'd take this to the DC board, but I don't want to wake the dead over there.

I was surprised too. I figure Troy had Trump as snowed as he had everyone else with his fake, "I'm just a country-cave-business-man, your big words frighten me" attitude. But I couldn't believe he dragged Kwame in there with him. And then to tell Trump that he had no real formal education besides Trump's "The Art of the Deal" to guide him was just too much. Maybe even for Trump who loves getting his ass kissed more than the partners at my firm (if you can believe that).

I think Amy wins the whole thing. And she deserves it. I don't know why she and everyone else is so impressed with Bill. He hasn't shown me anything.

Amy and weird-facial-expression guy won by accident yesterday. If I had a guy come in who wanted to spend big money on the space but needed a few more hours on the lease, I would have called Trump on his celly to get the approval. They should have lost. Who the hell throws a New Year's party that ends at fucking midnight?

Is DS really trying to say "did trump keep Kwame bc he is black?". I dont care what color Kwame is. He is useless. That said, useless is probably better than downright sleazy, which is what Troy was last night. The fact that that whole swindle move te tried to pull on the $38.5 guy wasnt brought up makes me think swindling is not a bad thing for the Donald. Did anyone see Troy on Today show? If he had an education, he could be a really great politician. He was like John Edwards West.

I will note that Trump said what George said verbatim, so it seemed like it might have been an excuse.

SURVIVOR

And how awesome was Survivor last night? At first I thought they made a mistake keeping Amber, but she is such a legendary henchwoman (Jerry's in Australia and Rob's here), that Rob, if that was true godfather shit, brings a two for one deal with Lex. Who I am starting to think is gonna run away with the whole thng. I remember hating Lex in Africa but now I am kinda liking him. Amazing what editing can do for a person.

Can't you people just buy and enjoy a damned drink without worrying if it's cool enough or passe?

Fuck. This is why closet cosmo addicts end up hurling up good bourbon.

Helix is the cool new nightspot. Its been around for awhile. I guess the wash Post is just discovering that Logan Circle and the 14th street area are becoming trendy.

or maybe the breezy mojito is making a comeback?

The drink is beside the point. I'll order an Appletini or a Cosmo without shame. And you should see the silly things Paigow drinks. The point is that the Washington Post reports trends without hinting either that DC is behind in picking up on the trend or that the Post is behind in reporting it. The upside to this is that it makes even me feel current.

And are you admitting that you're a closet girl drink drinker despite your many pronouncements to the contrary?

Cool -- thanks for inviting me, pj. I'll bring a never-been-used Coach bag that is too small for my taste, and a delightful little scarf that has too many sad memories.

Do accessories include shoes? Because I need some new stilettos.

I admit I will kick my own grandmother out of the way to get to a white russian. However, I nipped my nascent girl-drink fascination in the bud by realizing that what I really wanted was not the actual drinks, but the little paper umbrellas--and that they look charming tucked behind one's ear or in a ponytail at summer parties.

Are we related? You know, Earl and Cathy sold the main house on the farm last fall, so I don't know where we'll be meeting. Hasn't been the same since Oceana passed on anyway.

Not to worry, PJ. The cosmopolitan is still a happening beverage in DC. Further description of DC's new cool nightspot.

If Andy Warhol had done business with Austin Powers, they might have hatched something like this mod retreat in the funky Hotel Helix in Logan Circle, one of a handful of boutique hotels operated in the District by the San Francisco-based Kimpton chain. At Helix, what look like marshmallows on steroids serve as stools, and the lighting segues from pink to blue to orange (not to worry: that's the plan, not the drink in your hand). As for the music, in about the same amount of time it takes you to drink a cosmopolitan, you might catch the Jackson 5, Madonna and Aerosmith. The tunes, like the clientele, are eclectic.

What silly drinks do I drink? Pinot Grigio and the patented paigowtini which is stoli, soda and a splash of rose's lime juice, in a highball glass?

I don't think Trump was fooled by it, but if everyone else was stupid enough to have been, it makes them all a lot more fireable than Troy.

I was surprised, but not shocked - it was a good move, given Trump's piss-off-edness re: several earlier people sending their friends back up & getting canned for it. I actually thought it had saved his ass, totally apart from the fact that I thought he was a better performer overall.

Way over the top. TUIMMALB.

Agreed. But I figured she quite likely won it from the first 10-15 minutes of the first ep when they used a LOT of her side interviews - clearly they were setting her up as a recognizable character for the long haul.

Absolutely, though they might have asked and been told "don't fight the hypothetical," and it just didn't get shown (or maybe not, and they really were too stupid to ask).

And what is it with the redheaded dude, anyway (not-hot, by the way)? He seems pissed & like he has a chippy shoulder & all that, but seriously, what has he actually accomplished? He just bumbles along and is unpleasant. The only people I've seen actually pull out a plan and implement it successfully are Amy & Troy (the neurotic chick who wouldn't shake hands at the end put together coherent plans, too, but they never panned out). The fact that Troy seemed to do it on the fly (i.e.: come up with some idea that saves a total fuckup, time and time again), and that he's had his ass in the boardroom so much, might invite criticism that he's not consistent, but still ... he seems to have been the best crunch-guy of the lot.

The chaff is gone now, and the remaining four aren't nearly as bad as the other twelve. I mean, it is rather impressive that Kwame works at GS and went to the H-Bomb. He hasn't completely fucked anything up, and he's done a pretty good job with some of the stuff he's been in charge of. He's probably smart enough to see that he has to step up now and really "lead," which, by the way, is an inance term for what they're doing. They're not going into battle or playing a sport, they're making decisions based on the calculus of imperfect information and risk. Amy, Kwame and Bill understand this better than the "sales" guys like Nick and Troy, and that's why one of them should win.

Amy is getting pretty arrogant, and that might hurt her, but it seems like Trump has already decided that she is going to win. The next episode promised two firings in the first half hour, which should be interesting. It seems like the only question is who Amy goes against in the final.

The interesting thing about this, though, is that Kwame would probably be taking a paycut, Bill's already seems to have done well from his cigar thing, Amy's got the dot.com cred. Only Nick is the fish out of water. Trump is clearly picking someone with the ability to really do something, which is kind of interesting. However, it seems a little dishonest if there's no way that the uneducated ones can win.

Also, a question about Katrina. She is just young and exagerating all that realtor shit, right? Because why in the hell, if you were realy that creme de la creme of realtors (which you wouldn't be at 24 anyway) would you want to work in a corporate position at a Trump company. Around here, the high-end realtors make amazing money, and they're not working that hard, either. I imagine that there is some serious high-end real estate in Miama, too. I'll bet this was just a marketing thing for her and that she didn't really want to win.

Wasn't paying strict attention - what swindle? The hard sell "got another taker bidding against you" thing? Didn't bug me, really.

The Big Lebowski has made the white russian eternally cool. Drink as you please.
