Poll: On the Road

In the next couple of weeks, I'll be driving to the West Coast. Essentially, I'll have me, my car, and my CD collection. Though much of the time will (of course) be spent driving, I've got about 5-6 days to play with.

We've already done the road-trip CD collections, etc. So here's a slightly different question.

If you had to drive across the country, is there a particular place, thing, meal, or experience you would be sure to stop and see or have?

(I'm not thinking here of stopping to visit (say) your cousin Frank in Iowa City, primarily because having an imaginary internet friend visit your relatives would be unsettling to them, and confirm much of what they've already thought about you. Sure, there's probably some value in that -- but I have no desire to enmesh myself in your little family drama.)

Instead, I'm wondering about things like whether C2ed has a particular suggestion about the painted desert in AZ. Or if NotBob wishes to share the location of his most highly recommended Piggly Wiggly. Or if ShapeShifter has a suggestion for the best mammalian strip club in Tulsa. Etc, etc.

There's no fixed route as of yet, but know for general purposes that MapQuest tells me that in my trip from DC to LA, I should pass through PA, OH, IN, IL, MO, OK, TX, NM, AZ, and CA. Suggestions anywhere in the neighborhood are appreciated, and even ones that I can't use (like, say, Maine) would still be nice to hear about.

See you on the other side --

For once I agree with Sebby. There's nothing sadder than an aging sex kitten. But if she can rack up the big bucks by being a derivative crap non-artist, she can nurse her sorrow in an empty Citizen Kane mansion when her boobs drop and at least never have to appear in public again. Which would, of course, benefit all of us.

Leagl,

I do believe you're confusing "realist" with "cynic." Is anything I wrote generally incorrect?

The midwest is a fascinating place. I highly recommend the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home, in Dixon, Illinois, and the nearby John Deere Historic Site in Grand Detour, Illinois.

YOu can get the organic, pig's feet free version at Whole Foods. I forget the brand name but they are in an altoids type tin, are callled "ginger snaps" and dont involve harm to any animals.

Wall Drugst1ore.

Sorry thats in SD.

How about this? Be sure to hit Prescott, AZ right at sunset and travel down that windy road from the high desert to the low desert real slowly and enjoy the most beatufiful sunset vista you will ever see in your life. Go slowly bc it might be real easy to fall off th road a la Toonces.

Try to hit Santa Fe in a thunderstorm if possible. And there are some neat ruins near the Four Corners in SW Co and NW NM- pueblos.

And be sure to catch Siegfried and Clay in Vegas.

If you have a sock, bring it out periodically, when it makes sense or when (and pay attention to this one) you can think of something funny to post with it.

And everyone else, stop responding to this moron. RP, NCS, NFH -- I know you think you're being funny and creative with the replies to these socks, but you're not. Not only has nothing posted in the last 50 messages been funny, it hasn't even been interesting. And you're only encouraging this idiot to respond to each and every one of your posts. Enough.

Agreed!!!!!! haha Oh man, is Mr. Thurgreed one cranky camper or WHAT?!?!? hahaha BUT, he has point, no?????? All the socky sockiness has become out of hand, or maybe out of foot!!!! HA!!!!! lol When you just have socks posting dumbness, then you don't get the FUN stuff like POLLS and EMODE TESTS!!!!!!! Like when there was the bitchiness test, and everyone got to post about how bitchy they were, and suddenly it's like we get to see what people on the board are REAAAALLLY like!!! Fun!!!! Not to sound all hoity toity, or be all cranky and panties-in-bunch like mean old Mr. Thurgreed (YOOO HOOO!!! Mr. Thurgreed, can you heeeaaaar me??? HAHAHAHA) but the socks just water down the quality of the posting around here. So, I propose we get things back on track with a POLL!!!!! I would do a sex one, but that would be a bit racy for me. UH OH!!! So, how about a work one!!!! O.K., here it goes!!

Do you prefer to use paper clips, those black binder thingies, staples, or some other way of keeping papers together????

Oh wait, did we do this one already???

In your defense, what happened on the boards yesterday prior to your show was, frankly, not compelling. If TM et al. will give us a better show during the day, the night shift will not be driven to desparate measures.

Since Bilmore left, it's been all downhill.

I think we all mostly agree this is mainly correct.*

I'm reliably told that Altoids only uses the feet of amputee pigs.

Not at all. According to dictionary.com

Cynic:

"A person who believes all people are motivated by selfishness.
A person whose outlook is scornfully and often habitually negative."

That's you boo bear. Or rather, the you as you present it on the boards.

Depends.

Allentown/Bethlehem PA has interesting views from the hillsides; and

The Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri is an awesome drive, sorta like the West Virginia/Maryland border areas. Lot of sharp turns on inclines etc. Gotta sports car?
