A note: one of acetaminophen or ibuprofen doesn't work well for these sorts of injuries, since they're tissue inflamations. I can't remember which, but I think it's ibuprofen that doesn't work. Since ibuprofen is my general purpose painkiller, I think I remember that I was really in pain until I took a couple of acetaminophen, and then it wasn't too bad until it went away entirely.
Rib injuries fucking hurt. And there's basically nothing you can do about it. I took a shot in the ribs 3 weeks ago playing football, and it STILL hurts.

Wait a few days, dtb, before you conclude that you're injured. I've been sore for an entire week before. You probably just used muscles that had not previously gotten much use.

The bouncing? The iPod is a hard drive-based device, so it's possible that the long term bouncing might lower product life. I haven't heard any reports of this, though. All large capacity players are hard drive-based, and I don't think that the capacity is really worthwhile for the non-hard drive-based players.

If you're going to run with it, definitely get a good case for it. One so that it won't be destroyed if you drop it or it falls. My 3G 40G came with a synthetic/canvaslike case that it slips into, and that works pretty well. The only problem is that you have to slide it out of the case to change the playlist, but that isn't too problematic if you are setting up playlists ahead of time and just hitting play.

The one thing about running with the iPod is that it's kind of heavy, so you have to decide whether to clip it to something (and then it bounces a lot), put it inside a jacket pocket, or just carry it. It won't really work clipped to your arm, I don't think. The iPod mini will, but I think that's just a marketing trick. You're paying $250 for 4G and lesser capabilities and compatibility, when you can pay $300 for 20G with better capabilities and compatibility. The Mini is small, though. I guess I could see getting it if you don't use it other than running, since you could just download your selected playlist to it before a run, but like the idea of having ALL my music on it, and I use it all the time. If you are spending a lot of time on public transportation or doing other mindless activites where it might be hard to otherwise be productive or pass the time, I think an iPod is indespensible.

Dissent. Do NOT run with an iPod or any other hard drive based device. The constant vibration is very bad for the drive, and will seriously shorten its lifespan.

If you want a mp3 player for running, buy a flash-based device, which has no moving parts..

1. iPod (to replace the mp3 player that got fried)
2. Bose base station for #1
3. a tight abbed hunk (or the cutie from my basketball group) to come "paint" my living room

I'll wait it out. It hurts to sit up or lie down, and to laugh (which, for those of you who know me, means I'm basically in pain all day). I think it is a muscular overload (or something), as that part of my stomach is not a part that gets much working out.

Ouch.

His does. He runs in the rain with it etc. No serious problems. I'll double-check with him and let you know.

Do you have any hard evidence on this? Everyone I've ever talked to considers it a theoretical risk based on the way hard drives work, but I have not heard of lot of failures in iPods because, or possibly because, of this type of use.

Does it hurt to sneeze and/or take really deep breaths?

Regardless, doctors can do nothing for rib injuries, even if a rib is broken. Most doctors/receptionists will tell you this when you attempt to make an appointment re: a rib injury.

Pain medication and rest. If you are, indeed, injured.

Ottoman as Coffee Table

Quote:
Yes, I know it is Saturday night and coffee tables should not be on my mind but I'm in need of fashionable living room advice. I have a small traditional cape cod house with a small living room and I went too big on my new upholstered sofa and coordinating (or so it was supposed to be) armchair with matching ottoman. Mom says the chair, which is cattycornered (sp?) with the ottoman is too overwhelming for the room, and so I need to (1) get rid of the coffee table in front of the sofa; and (2) use the ottoman (that matches the armchair) instead in front of the sofa (to put feet on). She says people used to do this and when you want to put stuff like drinks on the ottoman, you'd put a tray on the ottoman. This seems fussy and dangerous with a 2 year old. Is anyone using an ottoman as a coffee table? Or have a furnished living room without a coffee table? If I need one, any suggestions for a more compact/narrow one? The decor in the room is hopelessly mix matched with stuff from my travels, mostly Asia and Africa. And here is my area rug: http://www.einsteinmoomjy.com/produc...5&idproduct=80

Thank you fashionistas.
I have seen the ottoman used as a coffee table on one of the HGTV shows (I'm not gay, nttawwt. I watch it for Brooke Channon), and I thought it looked awkward. I like the rug.
