I don't know.
The 12-17 set got bored with these things ages ago. I can't figure out who is still bothering.

Bold Prediction
The final scene of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is going to have Harry, Hermione and Ron sitting around a table in a New Jersey diner eating onion rings.

Can they at least play "Wheel in the Sky" instead?

Harry wakes up. He's still 13 and a terrible geek living in a small room under the stair, with his horrible aunt and uncle.

She thinks Snape will die saving Harry's life.
I told her I was going to be really upset if the Malvoys don't get some serious smackdown by the end. The 8 y.o. wanted to know what "smackdown" meant and I told her it meant they would get payback for all the terrible things they did. (Not a very Christian attitude, I admit.)

Yes - the harry coolness factor is real with my nieces and nephews. I too, think Snape will die helping Harry defeat Voldymort, but he'll be sure to say something like "Now, POTTER, must you be told EVERYTHING??!!!" in that Severus Snape way.
and I LOVE Alan Rickman too....

Almost done with GoF, will start OoP tonight.
ETA: I'm almost certain that Harry's saving Wormtail from Sirrius and Lupin in PoA is going to be a huge factor in the final book.

Agreed. and I think the 2 main characters who are going to die will be Hagrid and Snape.

And in an interesting twist, Bobby Ewing is taking a shower at the Dursleys.

My cousin's oldest is 11 and she would want a Harry Potter cake. Her little sister is reading the books too and would think a Potter cake was even cooler.
But they won't be getting a HP cake. I think their Dad is a bit of a healthy food nazi.

My pre-teen is more old skool. She's quite snide about Harry Potter, but has a burning desire to learn Klingon. She figures it will let her communicate with her peers from around the world, no matter their first language.

Goblet of Fire
Is it just me or is this one kind of boring? I'm almost looking forward to Order of the Phoenix even though that one is fairly dark. In any case I have to hurry up if I want to finish HBP by the 21st.

It's the book that could be subtitled "Harry is a bit of a tool"

Order of the Phoenix
Was anyone else as completely unsatisfied as I was with how they both (i) pared down the story and (ii) rewrote certain plot points to keep it shorter?
They similarly cut a lot from Goblet, but for some reason, those omissions didn't seem to bother me as much.

I finished my reread on Friday and I saw it yesterday. The Cho parts bugged me considerably. The lack of Quiddich bugged me, though I could sort of understand it. It seemed like they fast forwarded to the next book with the Grawp stuff.
I also missed wanting to throttle Harry on a fairly regular basis throughout. He mentions towards the end that he was feeling angry all the time, but he never really demonstrated his being a total ass to pretty much everyone. And they didn't go nearly as much into his hero complex as they did in the book, which I thought was important for his later downfall. Hermione mentions that maybe it's a trap, but she doesn't bring his saving people thing up.
I think that what really bugged me is that the movie sort of diminished things that I thought were important for later on in the series, like Firenze or the clean up activities in 12 Grimmauld Place or the two way mirror or a dozen other things.
Neville rocked, though. And so did Luna. And given how the last movie dropped the Weasly twins subplot, I was happy to see them get a much bigger role in this movie, especially since my favorite scene in all the books so far was their telling Umbridge to fuck off.

A big 2.
Add to my dismay (i) a complete lack of the "Order" actually being in the movie, notwithstanding the title, (ii) that they didn't even mention the Harry/Neville prophesy connection, and (iii) that they had to find a new actor for Mr. Weasly, of all people.
This movie, among all 5 I think, would make the least sense had you not already read the book.

Didn't JKR say there's going to be no Quidditch whatsoever in the last book? This upsets me greatly. I care about Quidditch.
