I'm guessing that will happen more, what with the Caps quickly reducing themselves to 5 remaining players.

If you ever have the opportunity to taste Nolan Ryan's sausage, sieze it. Juicy and salty!
In other news, John Mayer looked a little befuddled to be singing at the Rodeo last night. At least no one tried to put him on a horse.

Suzy Vulaca (Unbreak My Heart): great hair, good performance but somehow lacking zing. Wouldn't mind seeing her again in the wild card round, to see if she can step it up a notch, but I suspect the wild card round will be mostly men to make up their numbers.
John Preator (That's What Love Is All About): Is anyone else disturbed by his remarkable resemblance to Art Garfunkel? Too bad he didn't sound more like him. There are good singers in the Young Ambassadors, but this guy is not one of them. It was like bad community theater. Song was shapeless, too.
Heather Piccinini (New Attitude): White girls should not attempt Patti Labelle. At least, this white girl shouldn't. Her performance was a bit overwrought, and overly mannered.
John Stevens (Always a Woman to Me): Loooooove his red hair. But his voice is immature and has no bottom to it. Don't know what you people are talking about saying it's really deep. No no no. He also had severe pitch problems. I'd like to see him in another ten years or so, when he's perhaps developed some low notes.
Jasmine Trias (Run to You): She needs to support her high notes better--she was under pitch on a lot of them. It's possible she had a frog in her throat. She's basically the same age as John Stevens, but with a much more mature voice. If the voting goes how I think it might, we'll have two Hawaiian girls in the final 12.
George Huff (Always and Forever): Hooray for that other kid's DUI that brought George back to us. I had been really disappointed when he didn't make it into the final 32. Though he had a rough start, he has a really nice, rich voice and sings with emotion. This is what a voice with depth sounds like.
Lisa Wilson (Come to My Window): There's no way to get around it, this girl was just BAD. Shouty. And her boobs are still really fake.
Tiara Purifoy (I Wanna Dance with Somebody): She way oversang the song (what was up with that arrangement?!?), and her pitch was all over the place, sometimes sharp and sometimes flat. If these problems are somehow overlooked by the American public and she gets voted through, she will look even worse because she'll be next to Fantasia Barrino and Latoya London.

PS I heard a rumor that Larissa and Gil are still together, and that him leaving in a huff after the revelation of her history with Fabio was a setup to make better TV. This is supported by the fact that one of the easiest cryers in reality TV history was completely dry-eyed after being "dumped."

Where civil unions are legal, can men and women enter into civil unions? Suppose me and the Mrs don't feel like getting hitched, but we want to enter into a civil union. I assume we could do that, because to restrict it to gay people would discriminate against hetero people. That being the case, we could have all sorts of "marriage lite" type unions. I guess you could upgrade or downgrade from one to another. So if I wanted to sleep with other women, I could renegotiate, something like "On thursdays every other week, we get to sleep with other people" and then let the lawyers negotiate.

Since I'm not from Texas, I have to ask: Are there any euphemisms here?
eta: STP. Nicely done, Ollie.

I would imagine so. In many other countries, there are common-law marriages that are governed by a different regime than marriages. I was common-law married to two boyfriends in Canada because I lived with each of them for at least a year. Under the law, we had certain property and support rights under the relationship. We also had rights to certain employer-provided benefits (because a lot of ins. companies extended benefits to common-law spouses).
Before gay marriage was permitted in Canada, gay unions were considered common-law marriages if the parties lived together for at least a year (whether the parties liked it or not). That is how they got certain employer-provided benefits and some other rights.
So yes, there's no logical reason why hetero people can't enter into an arrangement that falls a little short of marriage.

I had a hard time getting through for George, so that's positive.

I was almost down the line in agreement with Simon other than saying the screamer looked ugly while singing. It was not a great night of performances.
1. Suzy Valaca: I liked her better than the judges did, especially in comparison to later performers, and didn't think she was forgettable. Wouldn't be surprised if she was in the top 3.
2. John Preator (MO boy): Painful!!! So out of tune, my body was tensing up. I feel sorry for any listeners with perfect pitch. Big No.
3. Heather Piccini: Randy thought hotel lounge singer; I thought karaoke bar. Another big no.
4. John Stevens (crooner): I love his voice. The performance wasn't exciting, but I really enjoy listening to him sing. The phone lines were closed by the time I got home last night or I'd have called in several times for him. If he doesn't make top 3, I hope Simon will wild card him.
5. Jasmine Trias (Hawaii): She did really well for most of the song and then started "pushing." She needs a voice teacher who'll tell her that if she keeps doing that, she's going to lose her voice. Probably a sure thing to move on.
6. George Huff. He started off just awful and out of tune. I thought the awfulness lasted for more of his performance than the judges, E/O and spooky did. He has a nice voice so I wouldn't be upset if he moved on.
7. Lisa Wilson (screamer): Just awful. This is another one who risks getting vocal nodes if she keeps that up. Big no.
8. Tiara Purifoy: I swear Randy and Paula heard a different performance than I did. They thought she was one of the best of the 32. Simon hated her performance and so did I. Pitch, screaming, pushing too hard.

Too true. He really destroyed "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
Now Simon, he could sing. I still shiver at the climax of "You Can Call Me Al."
