Breakin'

This type of stuff has always amazed me. Alot of what these guys do doesn't seem humanly possible, but that's probably because I'm about as flexible as a piece of rebar:

How lucky for you that you know everything and are able to distinguish between "facts" from the acadmic world and "opinions" from the religious world.

The problem with doing so is that there are a whole bunch of these laughable little rednecks, with their quaint little "religion," and it seems like a lot of them appear to feel kind of stongly about some of these issues. As is probably obvious to most, I do not personally believe in creationism. But, I have lived long enough to learn that, sometimes, even things I believe really really strongly to be true are, in fact, not true. I guess I am suggesting that, absent omniscience, maybe we can make a little room in our world for alternative viewpoints.
As a Southern backwater rube, let me say thank you, Flower. From your lips to my biology professor's ears.

Now, if he doesn't make room in his Stalinist curricula for three days discussing how the world was created by Bob, God of Rain, I'm gonna own that fucker's house.

Should you be able to force your English lit prof to cover French novels in class?

I think the bill in question is aimed more at the "okay, kiddies, there'll be a quiz tomorrow, and the only right answer will be "Bush sux", so take notes now" kind of professor, not any religious issues.

I think you are wrong:

“Some professors say, ‘Evolution is a fact. I don’t want to hear about Intelligent Design (a creationist theory), and if you don’t like it, there’s the door,’” Baxley said, citing one example when he thought a student should sue.

Hmmm. Maybe NB&A needs to start marketing effors in places like Oxford, Columbia, Athens, and Gainesville. Perhaps I can pick up some work defending the impious professors.

I mean, thanks to tort reform, the backwater rubes who slip on the puddle of Crisco in aisle seven are finding it harder to sue my clients. Perhaps I can make some coin defending the University of Tennessee from undergrad frat boys who don't feel like reading Darwin.

I do not believe in creationism. Nor do I believe I know everything. Therefore, I do not believe that some professor who thinks he knows everything should be allowed to tell some student who believes in creationism that the student is objectively wrong and will fail the test because of his beliefs. Whether the student should be allowed to sue the porfessor is debatable, but it does not seem like that extreme a remedy to me.

If a professor is telling you evolution is fact, you need to transfer schools.

God, you are such an apologist. Look, I've had professors like this (not for science courses, mind you, and I've had plenty of those) but "true" leftist professors who express their own personal viewpoints in class are just as likely to say "Kerry sux" as "Bush sux".

What you fail to realize is that evolution is taught as a generally accepted theory, which is borne out by scientific evidence pointing to a factual basis. How do you even begin proving matters of faith? It's a fucking stupid argument to even have. You can believe in a higher power and still accept evolution as based in fact. But to try to legislate this crap is asinine.

Bilmore- since flower is a moderator, I think you might have a cause of action against him in Florida.

International Shoe says to stop selling those plaid pants over the internets to Jacksonville residents right now.

Hey, we're back to being a lawyers board! And it's unbelievably boring. Let's stop.

Breakups

Generally, what do you say when you hear about a breakup? I was at a party last night, and through someone else's blunder ("where's [longstanding girlfriend]?" "I dunno. We broke up on Sunday.") discovered that some good friends split. I wasn't exactly surprised, but I was sort of appalled at some of the other reactions. Some probed for details. Others, who had no details, assured him that he'd either get back together with her soon or he'd find someone else.

My reaction was to simply give him a big hug.
