And you're not even counting the girlfriends!

You guys are making it sound like it's a bad thing. I mean, there may be 5-7, but that doesn't mean that there isn't one special one!

[true story] Normally I am a progressive, but I just assumed my first wife would take my last name. A month before the wedding the issue came up in earnest, and she was balking. For a two day period the wedding was actually off, but then we decided on a compromise. We would compete to see who took the other's last name. If I won, she took mine, and if she won, I took hers. I suggested a sporting contest, a pure physical contest, a (metric)mile running race on the track. At first glance this did not seem fair as the only chick in Chicago at the time, whom I knew of, who was faster than me was Jenny Spangler. So, being a sportman of the fairest order, I agreed to spot her 800 metres. I nipped her after the last turn in the final 50 with a ferocious finishing kick in 4:21. My fastest mile ever (hi coltrane). [/true story]
Fast forward to today: She has to deal with having the last name of a fattie who can't let go of the past.

I'm assuming this is so the names on the headstones are consistent, no?

I've been strongly considering this change as the Littlest Bagette approaches - nay, passes, overwhelms, and beats into sobbing submission - puberty.

From http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11063b.htm
  • In Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, they have the custom of making him the secret purveyor of gifts to children on 6 December, the day on which the Church celebrates his feast; in the United States and some other countries St. Nicholas has become identified with Santa Claus who distributes gifts to children on Christmas eve.
This sounds like the work of an industrious German capitalist. No wonder Karl Marx invented socialism (he was jewish, right?)

Indeed. In fact, I may be the ultimate romantic. I just keep it under wraps until a sappy Amazing Race "My wife is the strongest person I've ever met; I'm so proud of her!" clip comes along to jerk the tears right out of me.

Jesus, woman. It is "Ping! Pow!. I am sure your little handbook, Eats, Shoots and Leaves has a section on this.

And that wasn't really a "Ping! Pow! situation.

I was going to respond in like kind, but coincidentally, in an ironic fashion, I was opening a fortune cookie with one hand, while typing with the other, and my fortune read as follows:

YOUR PERSONALITY IS GREAT; USE IT PROUDLY-DON'T DEBATE

Well, you know folks, Mrs. Not Bob is really the one y'all should be honoring here today. I'm just thankful that she dropped out of law school to marry me and to edit all of my seminar papers, otherwise I never would have gotten that first job at Dunning Sponget, heh-heh.
