the issue is infer vs. imply, not the elements of defamation torts
in·fer (ĭn-fûr')
v., -ferred, -fer·ring, -fers.
v.tr.
To conclude from evidence or premises.
USAGE NOTE Infer is sometimes confused with imply, but the distinction is a useful one. When we say that a speaker or sentence implies something, we mean that it is conveyed or suggested without being stated outright: When the mayor said that she would not rule out a business tax increase, she implied (not inferred) that some taxes might be raised. Inference, on the other hand, is the activity performed by a reader or interpreter in drawing conclusions that are not explicit in what is said: When the mayor said that she would not rule out a tax increase, we inferred that she had been consulting with some new financial advisers, since her old advisers were in favor of tax reductions.

Of course I was not talking about the issue, I was making a joke at SD's expense. Which everyone should have assumed.
I would have left this dropped but for the quote from some legal crap that is practically as long as the Rush lyrics quotes. That is just wrong.

I doubt you'll find "Per snickety" in Black's. But "persnickety" is probably in Webster's.

Yes, and he made a mean burger back in the day.
I was the Rick Moranis character in my past life, so I once again I am left cockless in this fight. I will say that Rick Moranis sold out to tha man with that entire Honey I Shrunk franchise.

Well no, I haven't. But my point was, has anyone here who has written a story ever intentionally included a symbol. No question one could point to alleged symbolism in novels, and probably some authors have used symbolism.
A little off point, but I read an interview with Chrissie Hynne, where the interviewer was telling her all this symbolism that "was in her songs." She just kept saying, "Wow, you see that there? Cool!"
Literary analysis has to create the presence of symbolism to give the profs something to talk about.

blah blah imply .... blah blah infer ...... snickety snackety ..... se qoud..... Jane Austen... satan.....Dave Thomas for god's sake.
This is fucking worse than actual work. I am disappointed and also saddened for Mister Ruysbroek whose dollars were used to sponsor the site during this time of such drivel.
And to think that I was bashed for posting lyrics on a day full of gems like the recent 50 posts (although not expressly bashed but I will note that the comment about not posting lyrics came right after my post of Take Off).
Come on, give me something good to end the day with, people --

This place has gotten pretty wild today. I'm not even going to venture into the explosive Jane Austen debate.

I know a few writers for television, and they're usually insanely pleased when someone picks up on the symbolism/metaphors in their shows especially the obscure ones.
But then, TV writers are an odd lot. They're pleased if you have an idea what their names are or what the name of their show is.

Look, Ms. Poster of Rush Lyrics, you don't have a flipper to stand on. So you may take your criticism and shove it where the sun don't shine. Go surf a hockey site. Or visit Dave Thomas's grave.*
*I am assuming two things with this statement: that TF is in Atlanta and that DT is/was in Atlanta. I may be wrong on one or both.

Well I will try. This may be sort of amusing. So anyway, people tell me I look young for my age and that generally makes me happy. Today I am walking along and some guy (I would say around 20) checks me out and says "Whatsup, Gramma" when I walk by. I just looked at him and said "did you just call me gramma?" and he says "yup" with a big kind of flirty smile.
What is that all about? am I missing the lingo of the kids these days? Gramma?

Lucky for MR he no longer reads the boards, so he won't know that his money has been wasted.

So my second recorded agreement with you ever has already been cast aside? No Elsinore for you! Here's a bit of news you might find appealing...
You can purchase Strange Brew DVD and the Great White North album for $25 and change on amazon.com, and thus qualify for free shipping of the same to your doorstep (purchase must exceed $25 to be eligible). I will be watching and listening to those fine purchases within 15 days...
