I think it's kinda stupid to go get laid by a hooker (or the wife's sister) just out of injured pride -- it sounded like the wife was having an affair, not just randomly fucking, and that's not the same thing. But I'm a female (on the internet, at least).

Here's the problem (and why sebby is kind of right): In most cases, no matter how progressive you are or think you are, if you're a woman and you cheat on your husband and he lives with it, you're going to lose respect for him. That's just the way people are programmed.
Hell, without knowing more, I would go so far as to say that in the current case, the wife wants her husband to react. There are accidents and there are accidents. She is fucking someone else (probably leaving all sorts of clues for awhile) and then finally leaves an email open for him to find? Come on. On some level she is telling him to do something. Whether it is "Get pissed at me" (a by-product of which is probably the knowledge that he will fuck someone else in return) or "Leave me" or just "Pay some sort of attention to me," she wants a reaction.
Doing nothing will not work. She will not respect him if he stays and does nothing. And it will torture him if he does. Pulling up images of your wife getting fucked by some other guy for the rest of your life will not work unless you have some dirty little images to counter them.
I wish the poor sap luck, though.

Rhyming is Hard
The National Weather Service has a campaign called "Turn Around. Don't Drown."

This is in direct conflict with the National Schoolmarm Association's campaign called "Know Your Tenses."
I realize I am the only one who finds this funny.

I'm not saying he should do nothing, I'm saying fucking some hooker purely to get back at her is not likely to encourage her to continue to respect him. Because it's pathetic.

Catchy lyrics . . .
"You can try to swim
Until it sucks you down
Your body’s swept away
It might never be found
Turn around, don’t drown
Turn around, don’t drown"

This much should be obvious and from the tone of his first post I'm pretty sure he knows it.
Your point that a pastor or even moreso, a priest, may have a desired otucome that may not be the best outcome is well taken, though.

I just don't think asking the celibate for sex advice is wise.
Asking us is actually wiser. You get a plethora of disparate suggestions. We offer the gamut of possibilities...
... and tell you why each is doomed. And why, in the end, you're going to have to do what TM said early on -
just leave.

I am sure I heard Michael Stipe sing that.
On another note, anyone visiting New York in the near future (meaning warm weather, or, in the somewhat more distant future, after the end of this current period of warm weather and the advent of another, similar period) would be doing themselves a serious disservice by failing to visit The Bohemian Beer Hall and Garden in lovely Astoria, Queens. Believe me when I say it is a paradise of shady-tree sitting, big mugs of very good cheap Czech beer-drinking, grilled kielbasa-eating goodness. In fact, I will bring you there and buy the first pitcher assuming that I am not barred from the place after what happened this weekend.

Therapists are celibate?
I equate listening to relationship advice proffered on this board with listening to what other test-takers have to say about an exam in the hallway, whether before, during a break, or after. You don't know who's scoring in the 99th percentile and who's going to be posting "can I get into GW with a 147 if I have a 3.5 GPA from a top 50 college?" on the DC Board on infirm.

Two things:
1. I agree with you.
2. Have you noticed that every once in awhile someone on this board will use a post from someone else to address a general issue and the "jump off" for such a post may be something someone else said? In these cases, there might not be a direct response to something in the first post. It's just another post in the string, dumbass.

You should be clearer. Like, by saying "trying to fuck a hooker but being unable to get it up because of the images of your wife with the hot guy in the next cubicle keep running through your mind, and then whining about all of this to your wife as she returns, glowing, from yet another 'late business meeting'" really isn't likely to produce the desired result. But, if you do nothing, blha bhla hbalh alhbalh.
You might have said that. I skimmed. I was looking for an excuse to be disagreeable and repetitive, and I picked your post to reply to.
