My version? A good client recently bought a company in Sioux Falls. I really want to get that division's work, but I don't want to be in Iowa to service it. Of course I could send one of my factotum?

Far be it for me to question something you say about cycling, but I'm pretty sure that Mt Crumpit is near Whoville.

Far be it for me to question something you say about the Midwest, but I'm pretty sure Sioux Falls is in South Dakota. Sioux City is the one in Iowa.

Curiously, I once registered to vote in Sioux Falls.

Re: tying threads!!!!
So the inspector report came back.
The house we are buying is about 220 year old post and beam construction. So at the core of it are about three 200-220 year old three store high solid wooden posts - basically high quality ship masts from the forest primeval of the day. One of them has been partially compromised about 1/3 of the way up - likely some 150-200 year old insect damage that got reexposed to moisture because of a roof leak near the chimney that wasn't properly sealed about 10 years ago.
So we now have a couple of structural engineers who specialize in old houses figuring out what do do. We may end up inserting a three story high metal rod in the thing, or we may end up with a bit of surgery in the middle of the house or we could end up with some concretish stuff being used to reinforce the beam. Had we not caught this now, the house would have soon begun sagging noticably, and might well have become almost impossible to repair.
I'm finding this stuff fascinating, so ya'all are going to hear about it periodically.

Sioux Falls is fun. Icky-tripping-on-acid-trying-to-pick-up-a-mud-wrestler-whose-measurements-were-54-44-54-but-failing-then-hanging-out-of-a-sun-roof-going-back-to-the-hotel-making-out-with-another-girl-who-turned-out-to-be-PSYCHO-and-started-pulling-icky's-hair-and-punching-him-for-no-reason-who-had-to-be-escorted-out-of-the-room-so-she-pulled-the-fire-alarm fun.

Thank goodness for Wikipedia, I can figure out where I've been. Because of this when someone asked me yesterday "Have you ever seen Kiss?" and I was able to answer "19 times like this: ":

More to the point, two things I like more than I realized when we bought our house are the heated floor in bathroom and out main-level living room space that doesn't have a tv. Granted, we're all walking around with a screen in our pocket, and those get used a lot, but having space to socialize that doesn't have to have a tv on all the time is nice.
While house shopping, "where would we watch tv" was a factor among the small, older houses of South Minneapolis, and it's still a factor I'd consider, but the fancy home theaters prevalent in the McMansion of the '90s no longer hold up as a concept to me. How high quality is your streaming anyway?
Otherwise I'm much more in the experience not things camp. We're looking at redoing our 1940's kitchen and had a guy in from a contractor who was really excited to talk to me about the Thermador appliances they like to install. As if wanting an updated and more functional kitchen was about impressing douchebags who like to spend twice as much as necessary on gear (insert sarcastic crack about Flower's fancy bikes here).
|
It's kind of nice to have a TV-free great space, though we have 5 other ones stashed away.

A piece of truss fell on my husband's head when he was working a Kiss show. Their tour manager threw every piece of swag at him from the merch booth as he was going to the ER for the concussion in the hopes he wouldn't sue the shit out of them.
Also, this episode of 3-2-1 Contact with a KISS build taught me about my husband's job back in 1980: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHxFVpp7UYU

Any good recommendations on smokers?
There will be traditional barbeque, but I think I want to pick up a smoker or two as well. Going to do mostly brick and stone patios, and tear down the existing wood deck. I want to be able to barbeque for 50-60 people.
We're also going to do a bonfire pit.

I have a Masterbuilt 40 electric that I got for free. It’s pretty good. Not sure if you’re looking for more traditional. I’ve done chicken and it comes out spectacular but haven’t had time to do brisket.
