The death of fashion
We pause today to remember one of 2004's most striking, if profoundly stupid, fashions: The Ugg Boot.
Uggs of improbable colors were found in the snowy cities of Boston and Minneapolis, as well as on the the scorching and sunbleached streets of Miami and Los Angeles, as women across the continent both ignored well-accepted tenets of color matching and literally sweated in order to be "hip."
No more.
No matter how absurd, we knew that this, like all other fads, would pass and that its drawing power would slide and then accelerate down the socioeconomic ladder until they are hawked without shame inside gun shops, both figuratively and literally.
Farewell, Uggs. Take your place proudly next to Ashton Kutcher's trucker hat and Hank's Village People costumes as fashion statements whose past allure will baffle tomorrow's trend-setters.

Did anyone watch the Dr. Phil/Pat O'Brien train wreck last night? I am just wondering what Pat blathered on about.

When did Oasis get back together? That could be worth it just for the potential on-stage brawl.
Robert Randolph kicks ass.

Jiminy Christmas, I need to have a hearing in Austin that weekend. Wow.
I've seen a couple of these acts, but 99% of them wouldn't play Podunkville if their life depended on it. And the other 1% would have to have been stoned when they agreed to it. I think that that's why John Prine played at the Masonic Temple auditorium over in East Podunkville in 1997.
Edited to note that the parenthetical commentary is mine, and is not RT. I kind of doubt that she has the musical taste of 15 year old suburbanite.

No, but I did watch the AI Expose. Paula Abdul is stupid. Corey Clarke (or whatever) has absolutely no talent.

Ah the fun
of law school at finals time. My Assistant's wife came into my office this morning to ask for help. Her laptop, the one that has all the notes for her finals, has stopped working. She knew the laptop was having problems, it kept powering down on its own, but for some reason she didn't backup.
Unfortunately, despite the fact I borrowed a cord and a battery from another laptop, I couldn't get the darn thing to work. So I had to send her off to a repair shop where hopefully she will be able to recover her notes for her final on Saturday.
She was very calm when I saw her, but my Assistant said she wasn't very calm when she called. I can't even imagine how I would have felt.
I bet you all remember those days as fondly as I do. Fortunately, I never lost my notes, but it seems to happen to a couple of people every year. Happen to any of you?
I watched the expose too. Very, very strange.
