Speaking of which, I started it at the beach last weekend and was very troubled my the incosistency is usages of punctuation between the forwards (or whatever they were to the book, one from the author, one from someone else) and the text of the book. Very disturbing.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

Music Question

A friend has asked if I would go with him to the Curiosa Festival featuring the Cure, Interpol, the Rapture, and Mogwai. The only band I'm familar with is the Cure. Are the others any good? Is it worth the $48 and 6 hours on the lawn (rain or shine) at the Tweeter Center?

I do not know Mogwai very well, I have seen Interpol and the Rapture. At both concerts, I recall thinking how much each band sounds like . . . the Cure. So, if you are into a Cure-a-thon, this is the show for you.

I saw Interpol once (on a friend's suggestion) and they droned on so much, I ended up leaving before the end. THey are worse than the cure, whom I enjoy, but wouldn't want to listen to for more than an hour or so.

What's the world coming to?

I mean, you can't even get a good book-burning going anymore.

Best line: "Breedlove said a city fire inspector suggested shredding the offending material, but Breedlove said that wouldn't seem biblical."

My Life

Well, not my life, but the book by Bill Clinton.

It is a fascinating, entertaining, and frustrating read. This dude can tell a story, and can screw one up, too.

He needed an editor who would actually edit. Unlike a lot of reviewers who have said this, I don't mean that the book is too long or that there is too much about his experiences running for office in or governing Arkansas, etc. What bothers me (I'm about halfway through) is that the book is full of wonderful little vignettes that he then spoils by saying "and that's why I always supported programs for hiring blind school crossing guards."

Despite the pendantic asides that make me want to throw the book at the wall, it is an enjoyable read. Good stories, with a beat you can dance to. I'd give it an 8.

I like: "The new plan calls for members of the church to throw materials into garbage cans and then light candles to symbolically "burn" the material."

Sidd, we're talking about religion here.

Doesn't lighting a few candles to symbolize book burning pale besides the idea of a large number of Americans practicing symbolic canibalism every Sunday?

My question is, whose books are they? As long as these people paid good money for the books, lining the pockets of the authors and publishers who spread this kind of lechery, and as long as the books are not cultural treasures, I'd rather have them out doing this than spending their time campaigning for W.

Which reminds me, I saw a "W 2004" bumper sticker this morning. Really, it should say "WC 2004" to include Cheney, yes? And to clue people in that this would send the country DOWN THE TOILET.

Good morning, penske.

I agree. Seems fine to me. Live and let live. Just so long as they don't tell me what I can or can't read or can or can't do, they can burn whatever they like wherever they like.

It's funnier my way. Anyway, I'm partial to Gilmore Girls.
