Unfortunately, despite the fact I borrowed a cord and a battery from another laptop, I couldn't get the darn thing to work.
Most laptops use a fairly standard hard drive shape and connector, and most offer relatively easy access to the drive. Open up the panel, pull out the drive, and try swapping it into another laptop (of a similar brand if possible; especially easy if hers is a common brand like Dell or Gateway).

You can also go to any computer store and buy an external 2.5" hard drive enclosure (example, but check with the store to make sure your pin connectors match) that can power the hard drive and transfer its data. Pull out the laptop drive, plug it into the enclosure , and connect the enclosure via USB to anyone else's computer to copy the notes.

That will solve the problem if it is the power supply or motherboard on the laptop that failed. If the hard drive itself failed, she's probably stuck. Hard drive repairs are costly, time consuming, and not many people can do them. Time to borrow a classmate's notes. Or someone's Bar Bri book. Or just buy the damn Gilbert's.

This might actually warrant the trip, though this friggin festival keeps falling on my birthday. Last year the word was it was unbearaby hot. Just how packed will it be and will a person who really cannot handle heat well be able to tolerate it?

Also, if any of the Texans could email me a list of swanky hotels close to the venue that would be nice.

How much are they jacking up prices on the next phase? How quickly do I need to get my act together and make a decision?

Sebby, can you go? I suspect you and I would choose the same bands to see.
And, lastly, is Aqualung a Tull cover band?

Paula Abdul is a cautionary tale for women who get married rather than be alone, only to end up horny forty year old spinsters bc they missed the good years.

And the guy who hosted that show is quite possibly the ugliest motherfucker I have ever laid eyes on. He looks like an asian/latino/Steve Wynn experiment gone awry. Those eyebrows. Was that a facelift?

How does one become a spinster after one has been married?

etask how old do you have to be to smoke in this country? I got asked for ID when I bought cigarettes (not for me!) yesterday. I asked if he was also going to card me for my peanut butter cups (for me).

Will it make you even happier to hear that a couple of ex-Texans are planning to make the trip? God bless American for the direct flights between LA and Austin.

See. I got bitched out yesterday for informing people that this expose would be on. And I suspect more than a few of us actually watched it. Funny, Corey threw out just enough personal information to be credible. And Paula was stupid enough to call over and over and over again and leave voicemails. Let that be a lesson to you lonely spinsters who are judges of contests. If you're going to have sex with a contestant, don't go out in public and don't leave voicemails. It looks bad. If she didn't actually have the sex with that guy, and frankly I don't see what she saw in him, then why the threatening phone calls?

No idea on swanky hotels (actually every hotel I've ever stayed in in Austin has been exactly the same - they are huge fans of the circa 1980 interior courtyard model hotel), but we usually stay here. It is very convenient to the festival site (walk or short cab ride) and it is right across the street from a kick-ass greasy brunch place.
