I'm intrigued by these conservatives arguments that we ought to hold ourselves to the same standards as we hold bloodthirsty, godless dictators like Hussein. Presumably the RNC thinks this is a good way to lower the bar for the big re-election effort.

You've missed the point. That article is not about holding ourselves to a standard. IT is about the media failing to focus enough attention on true atrocities.

Basically, it is about perspective, which is why you didn't get it.

I heard a black commentator tonight argue that Brown v. Board of Education is responsible for the lack of black academic achievement. He claims that when blacks were in segregated schools run by blck administrators and were taught by black teachers, there was no discrimination inside the classroom. Now that they are in intergrated schools and subject to discrimination in the classroom, that is the cause of the lack of black academic achievement.

If you want to admit that our "news" organizations no longer simply present "news" at it appears, but instead decide which stories to present because they fit their own personal sense of values, then you should make a comment . . . well, much like you've just made. You've just equated the selection of what is "news" with serving an agenda. I would rather a "news" organization presented news. You would rather, it appears, that they select their stories to uphold your sense of right and wrong. You're getting your way these days. I think that was her point.
