Lust in his heart but responsibility in his loins

Amen.
Former President Jimmy Carter yesterday condemned all abortions and chastised his party for its intolerance of candidates and nominees who oppose abortion.
"I never have felt that any abortion should be committed -- I think each abortion is the result of a series of errors," he told reporters over breakfast at the Ritz-CarltonHotel, while across town Senate Democrats deliberated whether to filibuster the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. because he may share President Bush and Mr. Carter's abhorrence of abortion.
"These things impact other issues on which [Mr. Bush] and I basically agree," the Georgia Democrat said. "I've never been convinced, if you let me inject my Christianity into it, that Jesus Christ would approve abortion."
"I have always thought it was not in the mainstream of the American public to be extremely liberal on many issues," Mr. Carter said.
The worst treatment he's received, the former president said, was from President Clinton.
eta: i hope that if the Ritz-C gave him a room that the the toilet was cleared before he checked in.

I am always glad to see strong representatives of one side or another say things that show they aren't completely predictable and lockstep. But honestly, it doesn't sound too much different than what the article characterized as a "moderate" stance he took in 1976, when apparently he said he thought it was wrong and ought not to be encouraged by government. Perhaps there was more to the interview than included in the article, but other than the fact of stating it, he seems to be saying he's always felt this way.
And I am oh-so-curious about what of Clinton's treatment of him was bad. Quelle suprise.

The liberals strike again
How sad, tragic and embarasssing that one of the leading lights of the faux intellectually elitist slob liberal media would attempt to cram down his racistly oppressive appellationism upon a group that he and his cohorts have attempted to imprison in their political plantation. The leftwing should tuck their demon tails between their legs and run into oblivion after this.
Shame!

It seems to me that his criticism of his party and its evolution on the issue is a little more pointed now than it was then.

Yes, agreed - now, I have always loved Jimmy Carter (though that lust in your heart bit gave me shudders recalling my so. Baptist days) and thought him a good person. But there was something recently he did that just soured me on him -what was it? Anyway, his willingness to speak up is rehabbing him a bit.

1 This is not on topic for PB.
2 This is not only the most nfh-like post you have ever made (for awhile your news story posts were at least offbeat), this actually would be the most nfh-like post nfh ever posted.
3 How exactly do you think your post will attract newbers?

Jimmy Carter is my worst nightmare. A foreign policy defeatist pansy who thinks we can just ask the whole world to hold hands and sing Kumbaya. He is an economic moron who thought the best way to deal with economic issues was to tell Americans to stop using their credit cards. And on social issues he is a social conservative. Ban Abortions, Ban offensive music, ban everything.
He is my political polar opposite.

Yep, yep, yep, but I have a soft spot for him nonetheless. He has humility enough to concede he's been a better ex-President than President (whatever you think of his ex-ness, this is probably correct), and that takes something.

If Penske and I had a child, this is what it's posts would look like. I'm soooo proud.

Oh, bad ones. I found the experience untenable.

That goes without saying, but I don't want to slander the Ritz-C. to date I only know of their policy of greeting guests with a live shit in the toilet (not the bed) and that was in Cleveland, so maybe its like a Welcome Wagon thing from the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce.......
