Fringey -- I had a similar situation about 2 years ago. I lost my wallet at a gas station on Friday night, and was scheduled to go out of town the next morning to a conference sponsored by a client. I would have been able to get a replacement DL quickly, but the local DMV office wasn't open on Saturdays, and the one in the area that was open was too far away to get a new DL before my flight. So, I called TSA and the airline, and after speaking to 400 or so people, I was told that I could fly, but to bring lots of alternative things like credit cards, bills, etc., and also any sort of picture ID. (All I had was my law school ID.) I had no problems at either airport, and didn't even have to deal with secondary screening on the way back.

Just make sure that you get to the airport very early -- you have to go to the main airline ticket counter, and there could be a long line. Plus, it will take some time to explain the situation to the airline representative, who will have to call in his supervisor, who will ask you lots of questions about how you lost your license and about why you look like a serial killer in an argyle sweater vest in your law school ID picture. She will also tell you that she hates lawyers because one stole from her grandmother's business and no one knew until grandma died and the will was read, and to make things worse, that shitty lawyer had died a few years before.
What will she say about people who do benefits?

She'll ask me to explain her pension and I will miss my flight.

I was going to say something similar or about denying claims or something and being petty to you.

I think you'll be fine based on the posts.

Did you know that Notaries can solemnize weddings in the state of Florida?

This is almost reason enough to become one.

I've been to so many weddings lately that were officiated by friends and family who got their Universal Life Church certificates off the internet that I wonder now who can't solemnize weddings. Hell, I've performed a wedding.

If I ever get married, I'd be much more inclined to ask a close friend to perform the ceremony than an unknown religious official or judge.

That is crazy shit. apparantly, the requirements for notary vary from state to state in NY you have to take an exam, in TX I don't think you have to, and CA it varies...we discussed this on my legal secty group....

And why do we care again? I'm not sure. Is she? I always thought Baby Buggy was a nice cause, but I'm thinking 20 large of Manolos FedExed to Oprah is not the klassy move one hopes for. She strikes me a TTH=trying too hard. She's already wealthy, why try to prove yourself over and over and over.

My favorite thing about weddings in Colorado is that the bride and groom can marry themselves. That seems about right at this point in my life.

Is that a service they provide to improve the mood? It's not a verb I use much.

I hope you mean that they can marry each other. If states start to remove the social stigma associated with dating oneself, and indeed go so far as to allow a commitment to such a solitary arrangement, I fear we may never read another Atticus post again.

That seems about right generally. Why shouldn't a bride and groom just be able to go to city hall (or wherever), and obtain not just a marriage license, but a marriage certificate as well?

When you get your new license, make a few color copies and also scan it and save it to your computer or send it to your online email account. Also do this if you ever get a passport.
Also, when you e-mail the color copy of the license, include in the e-mail your SS#, because then you'll have those important pieces of info right where you can find them. It would also be best if you included the location, account numbers, and PINs for all your bank accounts. You don't want to be fishing around through old mail if you lose your bank card and check book. Finally, you'll probably want to have the names, numbers, and expiration dates of your various credit cards in there too. Don't forget the weird three or four digit ID number from the back of the card. That way you will be all set in case you lose pretty much anything. Be sure to use the subject line "Important Identification and Financial Information" so you can find the e-mail easily.
