After scanning through these reviews, I've realized that the only TV I watch is: (1) sports, mainly baseball, football and the World Series of Poker (on ESPN2 and the Travele Channel - phenomenal), and (2) reruns, consisting of Seinfeld, Simpsons and NewsRadio.
Prime Time TV doesn't exist for me.
And I still contend that watching sports doesn't count as "watching TV". So when the GF calls and says, "Are you sitting around watching TV?" I say "No, I'm watching the Sox play the Mariners"...

I like your idea that watching sports is not "watching TV." What about the news or educational, does it count as "watching TV?" What if it is the O'Reilly Factor and is thus entertaining as well as informative? I don't think it counts because it is educational and going to school was never called "watching TV." I consider all home repair, cooking and personal improvement (like What Not to Wear) shows to be kinda like "working" or "housework" and not really "watching TV." Watching Spongebob with my son is also not "watching TV" because it is "quality family time." The Weather Channel is not "watching TV" because, well, it is the Weather Channel for freaks sake ya geeks. Finally, watching HBO, etc. is not "watching TV" because they can say fuck and show tits and stuff like that.
I apparently have NEVER watched TV.

Other Bits of Randomness
When TM put up that overrated list, he encouraged us to add other categories, but I forgot a longstanding one of mine...
George Carlin is the most overrated comic.
Sure, he's had a score of HBO specials, and if you took the time to watch all of them, you'd laugh occasionally. But he's not as funny as advertised. You can be as indignant as you want about "Why do we park on a driveway, but we drive on a parkway?" as you want, but that doesn't make you the preeminent comedian of your day.
Let's also discuss this supposedly risky move from being a nightclub comic to being a "counter-culture" comic. He always claims that he went from wearing a tie, working for The Man, and entertaining the cocktail set to wearing long hair and making hippies laugh. Can someone explain to me why anyone should be considered skillful for having the ability to make potsmokers laugh? I killed in dorm rooms and frat houses, where the fuck is my HBO special? When was chasing after the Boomer dollar ever a bad play?
And another thing...the whole Seven Dirty Words business. George gets far too much credit for that whole business. Lenny Bruce was walking the line and paying the price before George and his Hippy Dippy Weatherman were setting the Woodstock set all atwitter.
In short, George Carlin, an overrated hack, not nearly as talented as Lenny Bruce who came before him and died too soon, nor Bill Hicks who came after him and also died too soon.

. . . I agree that they're still mostly just carrying my food from the chef to me, but that's life.TM

That's a matter between them and their employers, to be addressed in base pay. Tipping is more personal, between me and my waitron. I say, tip them for the value they add to your life - not their theoretical value. My philosophy will jibe with yours as long as they really ARE that good, and deliver to me excellent service, which will garner an excellent tip. If they are just resting on the laurels of a stellar waitron career, but I get my asparagus cold, or with a blank look of indifference, screw their long-timer status. The Perkins person who brings me my pancakes quickly, smiles, and comes back at the right time will always get more than the Morton's person who clears my salad before I'm done in order to turn the table quicker.

Rapture, joy, ecstacy.
Walking through the rather extensive beer department of my local Central Market on Saturday afternoon, I started bitching and moaning about how unfair it is that Celis closed down. Typical tale: Belgian beermaker moves to Austin when his brewery in the homeland sells out to corporate beer. Develops fanatical following (at least I was fanatical), and gets HUGE (at least in Texas). Gets bought out by corporate beer here in the States. Corproate beer shuts down microbrewery.
So imagine my shock and delight when I turned to fine not only the Pale Bock, but also the Blonde sitting right there on the shelf. At first I suspected that maybe Central Market had been holding back a few cases and was just teasing us Celis lovers. But, no! It's back!!! The brewry, its trademark and its beer was bought by a Michagan Brewing company, and they've brought it back to the shelves.
I restrained myself and only bought two six packs.

That's the term that I was given (by a waiter-type) as being gender-PC these days. He was being sarcastic, but I still use it, at least here.

Aha. "Server" or "Waitstaff" (used singular or plural) are the only PC terms I am familiar with.
Too bad. I was hoping you were served by robots.

In his case, it does make him the funniest comedian of his day.
But, his day was back in 1979.

I don't disagree, generally. But that ain't the way things work. I find it hard to believe that if you took your family out and had shitty service at Perkins and the next night, took your clients out (same number of entrees and appetizers, etc.) and had shitty service at Mortons that you would tip the same thing. You may give the guy at Morton's a shitty tip, but I think it will be relative to what he normally gets tipped.
Besides, those guys at Mortons and most other steakhouses are so fucking old that you could tip them a dollar in hopes that they will be dead (or should be) before the next time you come in.

Mostly because I love to quibble, I will say that the expensed meal is certainly treated differently than the out-of-my-pocket meal - but generally, my tips at Mortons for bad service are very close to my tips at Perkins for bad service, and likewise for the good-service times.
Which means that everyone I know says that I undertip at Mortons, and overtip at Perkins. But no one has ever given me any defense of that position that doesn't include me paying more for some entitlement that is valueless to me.

Other good Austin microbrew news:
The Bitter End was on the verge of being evicted from its long-term lease to make way for a new W hotel in the warehouse district (like Austin needs another empty high-end hotel). Citing an unfavorable business climate, the W has decided Austin is beneath them, so the Bitter End stays.

Luckily, the tip comes after the meal. (Although a couple of the local Perkins cuties are very fond of me.)
