I just watched the Sixth season of the Sopranos on DVD (I wait for the DVD to come out). I didn't like this season nearly as much as earlier. I actually fastfowarded through stuff where before I was almost bummed when the show ended.

Attempt 3:

Between Six Feet Under, Rome, Deadwood, the Sopranos, Nip Tuck and Weeds, I don't watch TV or rent major releases at Blockbuster anymore. I just rent old TV shows (and the TV shows are mostly from HBO). Anybody else having the same experience?

I think those are short anecdotes followed by questions rather than just "statements" but I like all of them. If I were to give any advice, I would say that Attempt #4 should include something about Eastern European strippers.

*In keeping with the upbeat mood of the board the past couple of days, I'll tell you my terminal disease/calculus story here. The first time I took calculus, it was the summer before college and I decided to take a couple of summer school classes at my local big cheap state school. I made it through the beginning of the course fine, getting A's on everything involving derivatives. Then I had to stop going to classes for a few weeks and never learned the integrals (?) stuff because my dad was dying of cancer, and then he actually, in fact, died of it. Which resulted in me missing the final exam. So the really nice young teacher guy (I think he was a PhD student at the time) said I could just take the final exam home and treat it like a homework assignment and the majority of my grade would be based on the tests I took pre-final. So a smart friend of mine spent one evening trying to explain integrals (?) to me, then I did the test while it was fresh in my mind and I headed into college with an A in calculus from Generic State School U.

Pretty good, right? Well, here is where I screwed it up: Because I was an Econ major, I thought calculus was actually going to be important to my coursework and I readily admitted that I had no idea about those integral things, so I thought I would take it again at my school. So I signed up first semester, freshman year for calculus at some ongodly hour like 8:00 a.m. three days a week. I never made it up for that class because I was on crack (not literally) when I signed up for it, and during the course of the first few weeks I convinced myself that I knew this stuff anyway. So I get A's and B's on all the derivatives tests. Then, suddenly, integrals (?) started up. And I still wasn't going to class. Blew all the second half tests and the final. Got a D.** Fuck integrals (?).


**Luckily (or not?) this did not hurt me in the law school application process because my undergraduate school had the absolute best policy ever: Freshman grades did not count in your final GPA. I kid you not. Why would anyone go to a school where they did count? Seriously. Greatest loophole ever.

I don't think I'm entirely sure what econometrics is. I will look it up. It sounds scary. I did fine in calculus (required class in college) but sucked at statistics (elective).

ETA ah, it involves statistics. Yeah, none of that.

I was okay at calculus, but I could really only "do calculus". I never really knew what it meant or why, which is what separated the friends of mine who were very good at it from me.

Look, I love Mick. I actually like his voice. An Dead Flowers might be one of my favorite songs of all time. BUT, that fake twang was unnecessary, and it sounds annoying. And whatever that silly voice Dylan was using on Nashville Skyline was, it's awful.
