[i] what to do with old cell phones

The Body Shop is currently accepting cell phones. The company arranges for the cell phone to be renovated. Afterwards they are given to women in shelters. I think Radio Shack also participated in this type of program.

By law (or maybe design) all phones have to be able to connect to 911 even if they don't have a service plan with them. Women's shelters usually collect them and give them to women in case the batterers come back. (presumably they could sign up for service with them too, but really is the free 911 calls).
Of course, you need to give them the battery charger too.

Batterers that live with their victims also LOVE caller ID, because it allows the batterer to have more knowledge about who the victim is talking to. If the victim has a cell phone that the batter doesn't know about, it's a lot easier for the victim to take calls from people that the batterer wouldn't want the victim talking to, like the shelter or a support network.

Ginger Altoids are gone
The answer I received from Kraft:
Quote:
Thank you for visiting our curiously strong website and for your inquiry on where to find Ginger ALTOIDS.
Ginger ALTOIDS were distributed in stores around the U.S. for a limited time in late 2002, and due to the small number we produced they may be hard to find. However, if you're having a
difficult time finding it in stores, the product has become a popular item for purchase on e-Bay, the online action [sic] site.
We recommend you visit www.ebay.com and search for "Ginger Altoids." Although we can't guarantee that there will be some for purchase, you may likely see some available--good luck!
Please add our site, http://www.altoids.com/ , to your bookmarks and visit us again soon!
|
If they know it is popular enough to be sold on eBay, why don't they start producing them again?

close call
I was at a party in high school. One of those "my parents are out of town so let's have a party" party. Of course, there was a keg.
One of the neighbors crashed the party - older guy, in his 30's. He was asked to leave as it was a high school spring break party.
He refused to leave. A couple of guys tried to "escort him" out the door. He pulled a gun and pointed it at these 2 guys. One of the guys, whom I always pictured as a loser trouble maker, grabs the gun and points it away from his buddy. Pretty brave of him.
Nevertheless, the gun was pointed in many directions in the ensuing scuffle. At one point, right at me, I was on the other side of the pool table. You learn then, whether you are a freezer or a flea-er. I'm a freezer. Could not move.
Gun goes off, shoots innocent bystander in the back and is paralyzed from the waist down. His wish was to walk at graduation, but that never happened. He did receive a standing O when he rolled up in his wheel chair. He missed the whole spring quarter, but they gave him his diploma anyway.
Moral - underage drinking is dangerous.

You all can feel free to say prayers of pity for all the IT people who have to work with me, but I don't know how to get it from being your avatar (where its address thingy is http://www.lawtalkers.com/forums/ava...ine=1067638242) to being my avatar.
This is so upsetting that I almost did "it's" instead of "its" above.
Edited because I had apparently fucked up twice.

I thought the moral was that everyone over 30 is creepy and weird. BTW, there is a misplaced "guy" instead of "gun" in your story that made it a little confusing at first, so if you are a fan of the edit, that might be worthwhile...
I've always suspected that I would freeze and/or be unable to make any noise come out in a panic. Luckily I've never tested it other than in my nightmares.
So, anyone heard any good jokes lately?

That's ok, you still missed "prayers."
But one of you change it - please.

Well, you seem to have it. I have to head out so I'm going to be you for Holloween and change this back later tonight or tomorrow.
Scary!
