They will also have an officially issued ID from an American governmental body. Last time I crossed the US border by car, my license was still sufficient to establish legal US residency with the INS/customs. It would also enable holders to move pretty freely to any other US state and trade in their CA drivers license for a license from any other state, given that "reciprocity" thing.
|
Would also presumably allow them to register to vote under Bill Clintoon's wonderful "Motor Voter" law.

All Britney all the time
Oct. 8 — Britney Spears has shilled for everything from Pepsi to sneakers, but there’s one product she’s not ready to tout: diet pills. The singer made headlines recently when she dropped a bottle of pills at an airport that one tabloid identified as Zantrex-3, a popular over-the-counter “fat burner.” THE PILL MAKERS wasted little time in putting the high-profile singer in its ads and touting the reports that Spears uses the weight-loss product. “Revealed: Britney’s Slimming Secrets” reads one ad that shows the pics of the singer supposedly with the pills.
Spears is furious, says a source, and her legal team is working overtime to get her out of the ads. “It’s the last thing she needs,” says a source. “Her people are threatening to sue the company if they don’t cease and desist.”
A spokeswoman for Spears told The Scoop that the ad is “completely unauthorized” and confirmed that “appropriate measures are being taken to stop it.”
I knew she wasn't born with it.
OK, so who's working on this case? Str8?

Translation. I dont have the guns to handle your rebuttal.
[qupte] But jesus, do you realize how hypocritical you sound? You openly talk about how you've flouted laws in the past like it was no big deal. So what you're saying is now, if SD magically appeared with a big blunt, you would say no, not me, I'm a law abiding citizen? I doubt it from the way you talk.
bitch please, I never smoked a blunt in my life. I am over thirty. We call them joints. And I am not at all certain I could handle SD baked. He is more of a hard alcohol kind of evening for me.
[guote] But that is kind of besides the point. If I were to buy that you disrespected the law in the past and now, because you have not broken a law in years, have totally redeemed yourself and been reborn as a law-abiding citizen, according to you, you still have to pay the piper because of the laws you broke long ago. And I don't see that happening.
while I dont follow this completely, it looks like you are saying that there is no difference between me breaking laws inthe past and people who are still currently breaking the laws. There are differences ( I would speculate). First, there is probably a statute of limiations on an arrest for the use of mushrooms or whatnot. Second, i think in sentecning, a judge or jury would consider wheterh the fact that the guilty has ceased from the criminal activity for over five years was mitigating as compared to a person who continued to do the crime and only stopped bc they were busted.
But I will tell you this, if I commit a crime, I am generally aware of the potential consequences. This is why I would not walk down the street smoking a joint, or bash in the window of the next Lincoln Navigator I see, much as I would want to. What was your point? That you shouldnt be punished for breaking the law? Or that the punsihment should be cast aside bc it would have been much worse for the person had they not broken the law? Yeah man, these Lincoln navigators blocking the sidewalks are making me walk into a busy street to get around them. Therefore, despite the fact tht it is illegal, I should ahve the right to slash its tires.
but my lack of follwoing your point should give you wiggle room to say that the above wasnt your point.
Quote:
So I and my thin skin will still continue to think that you are a hypocrite and even though you have the right to say whatever enters into your head, I will tell you why I think you are not in a position to judge.

I dont see how I am a hypocrite. Do adult crime, do adult time. Thats my motto. The fact that I would not enjoy my week in jail for smoking pot does not mean that I wasnt guilty, or thought it couldnt happen, or thought the law was just. But I do think laws are there for a reason and it makes our country different. Hell, its part of the reason the immigrants want to come here, right? They serve to protect us (in theory at least).
[guote ]And you did make a sweeping generalization. I am not going to scour the streets of Los Angeles in an effort to prove you wrong because I don't have time. Sweeping generalizations are always suspect though. They just are. Deal with it.
If you consider years of observing horrible driving by immigrants to be a sweeping generalization, then I think you just are unhappy with the observation and are grasping at straws to call it a sweeping generalization. I am sure there are decent immigrant drivers, but the worst drivers are immigrants. Again, go abroad and notice how the people drive in various countires. Like maniacs, so of course when they come here, they still drive like that. Its what they know. You are being naive. And are making a sweeping generalization by stating that immigrants are not the worst drivers. You live in NYC where everyone drives like a maniac, I am not sure you have basis for your observation.

Fashion Qs
Leagl's Suit Dilemma: I agree with the poster who suggested you concentrate on a designer/manufacturer rather than a store. A lot has to do with the body model they choose for sizing. Some brands fit me better than others depending on their body model. I am fond of Dana Buchman on the higher end and Jones New York on a more reasonable budget. I would also suggest trying different styles of suit jackets. The "traditional" suit jacket never looks good or feels comfortable on me. Maybe a shorter or non-traditional jacket style would look better on you.
Alterations: No matter what kind of suit you choose, spend the money for alterations and not just the sleeves and hem. A good tailor can make a so-so outfit look like it was custom made for you.
Designer: Armani, except that what I'd really want is someone to design clothes especially for me to make me look as good as possible. I'd love a wardrobe of clothes in saturated "winter" colors with clean lines and so comfortable I'd hardly know I was wearing them.

You aren't looking closely enough. Her mind is fried, she will pay for that in perpetuity. Unless her defect is genetic, in which case she will pass it to her litter.

Thank you. I have never tried DKNY and now I won't, since she won't accomodate my breasts.
But I'll look into Tahari and Max Studio both. My office is kind of mixed, I wear suits somewhat frequently but I really need some more casual stuff too.

This is the point.
Hasn't anyone else on the Board heard of a thing called pragmatism?
Illegal aliens will be driving on the streets of LA no matter what the federal government or the state government do. Do you want them to have insurance or do you want them to not be able to get insurance? I (and my sky-high premiums) choose the former.
Our economy is dependent on the work of illegal aliens. They clean our houses, mow our lawns, pick our fruit and vegetables, build our buildings, and clean our offices. Unless they are paid entirely under the table, they have payroll tax and social security tax deducted from their paychecks. (One company put a fake SSN on the sample ID card they put in their wallets. That SSN account has hundreds of thousands of dollars in it. Juan Illegal isn't going to be going to the SSA to collect it once he hits 62.)
If we're going to demonize illegal aliens, then we need to demonize those who hire them, pay them sub-market wages, and benefit from them. Because that's illegal too.
Paigow's "I'm not hypocritical because I don't have a needle in my arm at the moment" argument is not worthy of further response, especially as she hijacked the Board this morning.

So now we have 2 members in the thin skinners.
We should start a club. Our motto will be, "thin skinned, don't push my buttons, bitch."

Don't taunt me, reptile. I am not falling for your evil plot to get me fired because I spend three straight weeks going over what is wrong with the Bush tax cuts, and don't bill a minute.
