The animated film
The film version of The Point! first aired February 2, 1971, at 7:30pm on the ABC television network as a "movie of the week." The film was directed by Fred Wolf and produced by Fred Wolf Films in association with Nilsson House Music. In this version, there is a framing device of a father telling his son the fable as a bedtime story. In its initial airing, the voice of the father was provided by Dustin Hoffman, but for contractual reasons later airings of the film could not use Hoffman's voice and it had to be re-recorded. The VHS and DVD releases feature Ringo Starr as the father. The voice of the son, and of Oblio, was provided by Mike Lookinland, an actor best known as young Bobby Brady on the television series The Brady Bunch.
I have never heard of this movie.
I was too busy singing along to Hair and Pippin to watch TV in 1971 (with the exception of The New Zoo Revue).

Or you could get stuff from some other random city's sports team too.

I never saw the movie, just had the album. Much like I never saw Hair performed on Broadway, I just had the soundtrack. But The Point album did include a picture book iirc with pictures from some of the pivotal points (ha!) in the story. Such as meeting the 3 fat sisters, and Arrow falling to the point of no return.

I'm disappointed to hear that Dustin Hoffman took his voice back. That must be why I can't find the cd anywhere anymore. Now that his name was thrown out there, it is clear to me that it was the Dustin Hoffman version that I knew and loved.

[ETA: If I watched it on tv in 1971, I have no recollection of that event. I was somewhere in the one year old range at that point (ha!).]

I did Pippin in summer stock 3 summers in a row. I believe I could still sing every note in that show, as well as Godspell and The Boyfriend.

The cruelty of the Ipod's refusal to play a stretch of songs seamlessly is unbearable when you're trying to listen to Abbey Road.

If I could only have 1 friend, I would pick NotBob. He is a really solid base to my multitude of friends.

I guess my point was, if he were my only friend I would communicate via PM. Read between the lines?

In honor of the Solstice

In honor of longstanding FB tradition, here's my annual posting of the lyrics of one of my favorite Christmas songs, "The Christians and the Pagans" by Dar Williams. Enjoy. (New this year -- a sample for those who are curious about the sound of Acoustic Estrogen: http://darwilliams.net/music/audiofi...yclips/c&p.mp3 )

Amber called her uncle
said "We're up here for the holiday,
Jane and I were having Solstice,
now we need a place to stay."
And her Christ-loving uncle
watched his wife hang Mary on a tree.
He watched his son hang candy canes
all made with red dye number three.
He told his niece, "Its Christmas Eve,
I know our life is not your style."
She said, "Christmas is like Solstice,
and we miss you and its been awhile."

So the Christians and the Pagans
sat together at the table.
Finding faith and common ground
the best that they were able.
And just before the meal was served,
hands were held and prayers were said.
Sending hope for peace on earth
to all their gods and goddesses.

The food was great,
the tree plugged in,
the meal had gone without a hitch.
Til Timmy turned to Amber
and said, "Is it try that you're a witch?"
His mom jumped up and said, "The pies are burning,"
and she hit the kitchen.
And it was Jane who spoke,
she said, "Its true, your cousin's not a Christian."
"But we love trees, we love the snow,
the friends we have, the world we share.
And you find magic from your God,
and we find magic everywhere."

So the Christians and the Pagans
sat together at the table.
Finding faith and common ground
the best that they were able.
And where does magic come from?
I think magic's in the learning.
Cause now when Christians sit with Pagans
only pumpkin pies are burning.

When Amber tried to do the dishes,
her aunt said, "Really, no, don't bother."
Ambers uncle saw how Amber looked like Tim
and like her father.
He thought about his brother,
how they hadn't spoken in a year.
He thought he'd call him up and say,
"Its Christmas and your daughter's here."
He thought of fathers, sons and brothers,
saw his own son tug his sleeve, saying,
"Can I be a Pagan?"
Dad said, "We'll discuss it when they leave."

So the Christians and the Pagans
sat together at the table.
Finding faith and common ground
the best that they were able.
Lighting trees in darkness,
learning new ways from the old, and
Making sense of history
and drawing warmth out of the cold.

Why do you post this now, when you know that PLF is busy having the UF with ABBA's slutty coworkers in some downtown Bennigan's bar? Hank's such a big brave man when Flower isn't around. Planning to change it to a couple of emoticons before he gets back?

I recently saw this exact post on a sixteen year-old girl's MySpace blog. Which is not to say that sixteen year-old girls can't be quite insightful and mature in their song lyrics selections.
