They only have one TV? Geez, if you're scrimping on the big things (House/live alone) at least treat yourself to a 15 inch TV for the bedroon.

Will it change your mind if we play with rocks instead?

Yes, more or less. General rule is you must always respond to an invitation in at least as formal a style as it was issued, you may never respond in less formal a manner, but going more formal is OK (except: never issue a formal response to anything but a formal invitation, formal being third person wording with the lines centered on the page - typical wedding invitation/response format). So, in declining steps of formality: formal response for formal invitation, letter for letter, e-mail for e-mail (e-mail being more formal than a phone call, since it is quasi in writing, though no one realizes this, least of all clients who send bad things to distribution lists), phone call for phone call, in person response for in person invite. I haven't decided where an e-vite falls in all of this - it is in writing, I guess, but suffers greatly for being an impersonal mass-thing. I guess e-mail suffers from that, too, unless your list is all bccs. Hmm.

Very gracious people will respond to everything by letter - even phone invitations are met with "We got your message - Max and I will be delighted to come to dinner on the 8th. Look forward to seeing you then. Bunny" If you keep stationery and stamps around as a rule, the observant will notice that scrawling these few lines is actually much more time efficient than calling up and getting roped into a whole conversation about not much, and no less efficient than typing out an e-mail, and therefore is highly recommended for the busy lawyer. I wish I could say I do this, but I somehow cannot manage to keep stamps around.

You see, I'm a little more old fashioned (some would say Medieval) than this. I believe that being truly gracious requires direct, interpersonal connections between either the lords or ladies involved or those who serve them.

I believe the hospitality between two sets of my ancestors, the Campbells and the MacDonalds, set the standard.

That's because this type of person is so rarely invited anywhere that they feel the need to document the occasion.

4 TVs. Too many. And I never said I didn't enjoy having a roommate. I lived alone for 3 years during law school. It was boring. Here's a list of the benefits:

(1) You never drink alone.
(2) You're only 3 people away from a poker game.
(3) I buy "The Office" DVD. He buys Eddie Izzard.
(4) Enough room for large parties (keggers!!)
(5) I get to make fun of him if I see an ugly girl leaving (infinite value on the fun scale).
(6) People always seem to stop by for sporting events. I enjoy this. Sitting at home watching football (or anything for that matter except for porn) alone is not half as fun as watching it with a group.
(7) He's a mean chef. The guy can cook.
(8) "Hey, lets call so-and-so and harass him for turning 30" - good times.
(9) You don't feel half as guilty sitting on the couch and watching TV if someone else is on the other couch doing the same.
(10) Growing up is for suckers. You can have your maturity.

My mom and I were discussing formal invitations this weekend. WE have been invited to a formal party which has a return address on the invitation. What kind of stationary do you use? We both of course have monogrammed stationery but my mom seems to think that you can't use monogrammed stationery, it isn't formal enough. I can see her point, but I am not buying new stationery just to reply to one or two invitations. What kind of stationery should you use?

No, but he does subject me to Emeril. I'm involuntarily learning how to cook.

Just ask your lady to take care of it. They always know.

I'm curious, what response do you get from women when you say you have a roomate?

And if they miss, then the Eagles are only 20 yards closer to the tying field goal than they'd have otherwise been.

Here's my model:

(model deleted)
As a result of Sherman's decision to punt, the Eagles were soon facing a 4th and 26 from their own 26. Therefore, I think it was a good decision.

Playing a zone D on 4th and 26? Bad decision.

Calling a QB draw on third and long when your QB is Favre? Bad decision. (This was the play that resulted in the 4th and 1).

Going for it on 4th and goal from the 1 while up 14-0 on the road? Bad decision.

You act as if it was a foregone conclusion that the punt would result in a touchback. It could have easily resulted in the Eagles fair-catching on their 8.

You also forget that Sherman was already 0-1 on 4th and 1s. If you think people are roasting Sherman now, just imagine if he had gone for it on the 2nd 4th and 1, not gotten it, and lost. Christ, they's be comparing him the Barry Switzer.

BRC still lives in the eighteenth century when hairdressers werent yet invented and the only people who named their daughters Briana were the Celts who were going for the female version of Brian. Everything was done via the Pony Express- it was only proper.

You're not actually learning anything unless you're actually doing. It's like the Buns of Steel video you used to watch. No benefit from just watching - you have to be a doer.
