I thought this was settled on the Stalin Board. The word we settled on was "ridicule." Link to suck.com article (remember them?) entitled "How to Judge A Man By His CD Collection."
Of course, John Mayer obviates Dave Matthews.

Kewl. If they are mandatory in Texas, I can safely assume they are mandatory everywhere.
Having a dog is the single most effective thing you can do to deter break-ins. Better than bars on the windows, better than alarms and security systems, better than paid security in your neighborhood, better than a big sign saying "shoot to kill policy in effect" emblazoned on your door. Because dogs are totally unpredictable and therefore can't be controlled for or worked around.
For everyone's amusement, I found some US mortality stats: one's chance of being killed in a car accident each year are about 1 in 7,000. Chances of being killed with a gun (all causes: accident, crime, etc.) are about 1 in 8,600. (There are .8 cars and .82 guns per capita in the US.) Chance of being in an auto accident this year: 8 in 100. Chance of being a victim of violent crime: 1 in 3. Chance that a child will accidentally shoot themselves or someone else with a gun that is stored in a locked location: nearly 0 (though I'm not sure if "child" in that instance includes "curious teenager who intentionally picks the lock to impress friends" or not).

but I know that a French-Canadian goalie and a guy named Niedermayer will win.

So, I will root for the Ducks. Despite the fact that they were created by some suit merely as a part of some bizarre Disney synergyistic marketing plan. Despite the fact that they play in the hockey Mecca that is Southern California. Despite the fact that I know that poor Jiggy is overdue for a bad game, and that the hated Devils will break my heart by skating the Cup yet again, with Puddy screaming "go Devils!" in the background.

I'm rooting for the Ducks too. It really hurts. But I like Steve (Stumpy) Thomas and Paul Kariya way better than any of the fucking Devils.

Even if your dog is a Lab?
Interestingly, certain insurers might not cover you if you get a certain breed (Rottweiler or Doberman, for example, which is a travesty, IMHO). They must think the potential increase in liability due to a bite outweighs the reduced risk of loss from a burglary.

And because dogs have scary fucking teeth. Seriously, did you ever notice on Cops that when the policedude says "come out or I'll shoot" nothing happens but those criminals skip right out and surrender to "come out or I'll send the dog in." I know some guys who are not K-9 units but they use the line anyway and the criminals are always fucking pissed when they surrender and there is no dog in sight.

You misunderstood (again). Socking is not sad. Socking with nothing to say is sad. It didn't get that way, it's always been that way. So, conclusion? You are a sock. You have nothing to say. Therefore, you are sad. Understand?

You think that personally?
I'll note that you also think I was a great at some point. Don't kiss my ass. It won't help you.
As for my current status, whatever it is, it's better than cringing behind some sock, scared to reveal who you normally post as because you don't want to lose whatever amount of goodwill you have no doubt tirelessly spent trying to build here. I'm betting it's a lot less in reality than it is in your mind, which makes you even more pathetic.

We both know you would love the attention. And since it's so obvious that's what you need, I've just banished you to the land of fu.

Ignore list? We have ignore lists? Is there any way to tell if you are on an ignore list? I suppose if you don't respond that means I am on your ignore list. :sniffle:

Go to "user cp" and click "edit ignore list." I don't know if you can tell if you're on someone's list or not. But I suspect you can't or I would have received some form of notice by now.

You're not on mine, if that means anything to you.
I have found that the ignore list has the opposite effect than intended ... the very fact that I can't see the post makes me want to read it, even though I know the post is likely to cause whatever reaction (boredom, irritation, a desire to post a response despite my better judgment) that I was trying to avoid by putting the poster on the list.
I've only put one poster on it, and I only did so because TM told me that if I engaged the poster again he would hunt me down and kill me. And if TM broke into my gunless and alarmless house, my Lab would surely show him where I was sleeping, just to be accommodating.

Would someone please tell Mister Jump To Conclusions that he is entirely wrong in all his ASSumptions about me? I am a lurker on new boards with a prior identity on old boards you may or may not know. All I did was tell Barely Legal she was being rude to Soup. Some people are so touchy. I suppose I have to have sex with someone on the boards to feel truly integrated? Being accused of being a JRUSS sock is not sufficient anymore? If anyone is on par with Mother Mary*, shoot me a PM.
*Don't really have a clever name for the old lady as Jesus was a monkish sort.

From what I understand, even if your dog is a toy poodle. (Maybe especially if your dog is a poodle, those things have nasty tempers.)

Because dog bites are a tort case with juries deciding damages, they are probably right. Hell, I'd bet the burgulars could sue you for big bucks, too.

Are you suggesting that Jesus had an Oedipal complex?
If so, you're a sicko.*
* Admittedly gratuitous, but I want to know what this name-calling you all speak of feels like.
