I just got it recently and it's a little overwhelming. I've also acquired about 10 cookbooks in the past year (and am now getting *6* cooking and food magazines) so I haven't digested (heh) all the recipes yet.

The ones made in my house are green. They may stay together (as the little bowl) better than the red. All I know is that they are delicious.

No, seriously, I haven't had stuffed peppers in a while and it's sounding good to me.

I'm pretty sure that's how dtb really does it.

Does she have Driver and Maid too? Like Karen on Will and Grace? Or is it Maid, Cook and Nanny? Housekeeper? Poolboy? Karen didn't do kids, iirc.
I'm oddly fascinated. I've never had help, other than someone who spends a couple hours cleaning every other week.
tks for the recipe. dtb, does that look like what you all have?

The mario batali recipe looks pretty much like what we have. The cook is a little secretive about how she makes stuff. We're not allowed to watch.
Seriously, it is gooooood.
ETSay: WAIT A SECOND! That Mario Batali recipe has octopus. We don't eat octopus. Ours have ground beef - and she usually puts a hard boiled egg slice on top.
The ground beef is tomatoey and spicy. Seriously good eats.
Lots of those other recipes listed use ground beef. Yum.

Green Bell Peppers
The world's easest stuffed peppers:
Ground beef, browned
one can Van de Kamps Spanish Rice
one small can chopped tomatoes
one small can chopped green chiles
Mix ground beef and rice, stuff into peppers
pour tomatoes and green chiles over peppers.
Cover with foil and bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes
Remove foil, place slice of cheddar or american cheese over each pepper
broil until cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly browned.
Serve.
Drink heavily to get over the fact that, if only for one night, you have become Sandra Lee.

Sorry, I meant if you let them ripen more on the plant. I thought that green peppers always stayed mostly green even if you let them stay on the plants longer. I've never tried growing red or yellow peppers.
But again, Minnesota isn't prime pepper-growing country, though the Hmongs who grow things for the farmers market seem to do OK with them. Perhaps it is just farm country north of the Twin Cities that isn't good for peppers. I've never successfully grown melons there either.

Red Peppers are just riper green peppers. Or vice versa, depending on you POV.

Kids' food
In an effort to turn over a new leaf, I am trying to force myself to plan dinners for the little ones before 6 pm on the night they're supposed to eat them. This goes against my every grain, and I'm roadblocked before I begin. Does anyone have any recommendations (ideally online, since I'm semi-motivated right now) for ideas for simple, but healthful, meals?

This is going to sound stupid, but bear with me -- weight watchers. You can always make enough that it's not like a diet, but they tend to try to have enough fiber and veggies and fruits and stuff, and I think they generate a shopping list for you. eDiets I think does the same thing. Again, you can put yourself in as an active 180 lb muscley guy to up the portion sizes if you want.
