I actually like Doug occasionally (if not his "this is art, you bourgeois bastards!" attitude) but thought that wall still bit--looked too Brady Bunch.

I got your point, Dr. Ruth.
And to tie some threads together (i.e. Dr. Ruth show + anal sex), does anyone know who Sue Johansen is? She (I believe) is now on the Oxygen network, but she is long known in Toronto for her "Sex with Sue" first radio, then TV show. Anyhoo, way way back when, I called up her show and we had a long discussion about anal sex on the radio. I pretended my name was Michelle. She was very helpful. Knows a lot about sex for a not very good looking woman.

I think I know who you are referring to -- does she have kind of short grey hair now? Good for her with all the sex knowledge. Hope it wasn't all book learnin'...

Talking Sex with Sue
Of course I know who Sue is. Everyone who a) went to school in Ontario, b) watches the new Degrassi, or c) watches Oxygen network knows who she is. Hell there was an article about her in yesterday's Daily Variety! She rocks. I remember she came to our middle school and said: "Girls, a lot of times a guy will claim that he's too big for the condom to fit." She then took out a condom and rolled it up her hand and forearm. "I don't think so." Brilliant.
By the way, does anyone know what the hell is up with NOG-N or "The N" or whatever the hell it's called running the same 8 Degrassi episodes over and over again for the past twelve months? Last I've seen is Spike's wedding to Mr. Simpson. Is that it for the series? Crap.

Red Wine Recs
Nothing says summer like cheap wine. Enjoy.
Reds Easy to Drink, Easy on the Budget
By FRANK J. PRIAL
An excerpt:
Our favorite was a 2001 Salice Salentino ($9) from Leone de Castria in Puglia in southernmost southern Italy. Salice Salentino is a town; it is also an official wine region near Brindisi on the Adriatic coast. The principal grape is negroamaro. Ms. Battenhouse liked the fruit and acidity; Ms. Hesser found the flavors ripe but subtle, and appreciated the fact that it did not have a candied taste. Mr. Asimov envisioned it with pasta and a succulent meat sauce. We gave the wine two and a half stars out of a possible four. I liked its balance.
Our second and third wines, also at two and a half stars, were both Californians, and were both Gallo wines: a 2001 Rancho Zabaco Dancing Bull Zinfandel, California appellation, and a 2000 Gallo of Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County appellation. Both were priced at $10.

Tomorrow's the big day
Scripps-Howard again returns to the forefront of the nation's collective consciousness with the big Spelling Bee. After round 1, it's down to 175 5th-8th graders. Surprised that round 2 results aren't up on the internet. No live coverage on ESPN 2 today - that comes tomorrow once it's narrowed down much further. Make sure you tune in to find out which maladjusted home schooler takes home the title.
Favorite speller of the modern era was that girl who went really fast and never asked any superfluous questions once she knew the word, either last year or the year before. I think she came 4th or 5th.
If you've never seen it, you won't be sorry if you take some time tomorrow to watch. I promise.

I actually dated a woman whose beliefs were very much like Thrashers' Fan. She thought that any man who was interested in anal sex was a homosexual or had homosexual tendencies. What's surprising is that she lived in San Francisco and had plenty of gay friends, who presumably could have disabused her of these notions. They declined. I had more of a problem with them declining to pass along a few pointers in the oral sex department. This was long ago, and I didn't realize the variety in ability levels among women.
It's interesting that a hard-drinkin', cop-lovin', punk rock-listenin', mohawk-wearin' woman would perfer vanilla sex (to the exclusion of almost all other kinds). Appearances can be so deceiving. This isn't the proper forum for a complete discussion of rooms and houses. While the "nice guy" stereotype generally hinders dating, when a woman feels comfortable with a man and believes that she won't be judged for saying what she wants, she can speak volumes... about many, many schools of architechture. It was a valuable lesson to learn.

What's even more idiotic about this belief is that many gay men do not engage in or enjoy anal sex, while all Howard Stern can talk about (it seems, because my tolerance limit is low) is "anal" (no use of the word sex because that get the FCC upset) with women.

I have a gay friend who doesn't want to have anything to do with anal sex, and says that he only really wants to be blown. I think his being a born again Christian has something to do with these views. And his sexual frustration is the direct result of them.

There was an "incident" that may have curtailed what may have otherwise been a more free-spirited view of sex.
I suppose the one biggest blessing to the hubby is that my lack of desire for anything other than missionary sex is it allowed for the development of great oral skills. Yeah, I know, someone will be quick to say that this is not vanilla and thus I am a hypocrite. I don't put blowjobs in the same category as anal-sex but then again I would not permit oral sex to be performed on me. So, after much thought given to the statements made on the board today (some of them a bit too scathing, I must say), I have concluded the following:
1. A certain "event" had an effect on my view of sex even though I swore to myself that I would not allow it to do so.
2. Being poked in the pooper, among other non-traditional sex acts, is okay for some people -- just not me personally -- and has no bearing on their sexuality or character (unless they are going outside of the consenting adult realm).
3. I like giving blow jobs. But being a vegetarian I would never swallow those little buggers. Either way, it is considered kinky by some people and thus makes me more "normal" than I thought.
4. You have mentioned sex in other rooms along with certain non-traditional sex acts which means I am not as screwed up as I thought because I like that kind of variety (although one must be discreet with a toddler in the house).
5. it is never too late to be educated -- even by a bunch of perverts on a lawyers' chat board.

Interesting how people seem to go to one extreme or the other in relation to similar "incidents."

Go Canada
TORONTO, May 27 — The Canadian government introduced legislation today to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana, a move that U.S. officials said could increase the amount of marijuana smuggled across the border.
UNDER THE BILL, possession of up to 15 grams of marijuana, about half an ounce, would become punishable by fines of up to the equivalent of about $290 U.S. for adults and $182 for minors. Backed by Prime Minister Jean Chretien’s ruling Liberal Party, the measure has a good chance of passing because of the party’s strong majority in Parliament, political analysts said.
Chretien is proceeding despite firm opposition from the Bush administration, which views the measure as encouraging drug use and creating an environment of permissiveness.
Chretien not an idiot
