 | Another decent, online resource, is viamichelin.com. It's the michelin red guide, but searchable, etc. name your criteria and it lists the hotels. minimal descriptions, though, in the french tradition. |

				Vacations: A Poll

Thinking of places to go, things to do, here is a two part poll:
 1. what was your favorite vacation in the last decade?

 2. if you could go anywhere for a week-long vacation, where would you go and why?

 Here are my answers --

 1. had to be Maui last year. perfect combination of outdoor activities and relaxation. and a chance to see econsystems and topography that just don't exist on the mainland.

 2. I'd love to go to the South Pacific, including Indonesia (Bali) and Thailand. also Hong Kong, but I am seriously exceeding my week-long requirement here. I wouldn't travel to Indonesia right now though, unfortunately. Someday...

				      | 1. Cape Breton. Definitely away from it all.
 2. Iceland for a week; maybe Madagasscar but a week is probably too short.

 | (1) Chile. Santiago, Valparaiso and Vina del Mar.

(2) Prague. I just want to go. I haven't seen any of eastern Europe.

 | 1. Its a tie. Hawaii. The Big Island for business. Kauai for pleasure.

2. I'd love to 7 Ironman races in 7 days on 7 continents, because the 7-7-7 marathon thing has already been done.

 | BTW, how do the Falklands qualify as Antarctica? Did England not only assert a claim of ownership over the Falklands, but a claim that they are part of Antarctica as well? |

 | here's what cnn says -- The duo intended to begin their adventure in Antarctica -- to make it seven continents in seven days -- but bad weather forced them to run one of the marathons in the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic.

all I know is that I will feel like even more of a wimp than usual the next time a get jetlagged on a cross-country trip. sheesh. |

 | Okay. So, basically, they're lying.

You know, I ran 7 marathons in 6 days just last week.

Except I had to cancel them because of bad weather. |

 | I thought you weren't trusting CNN anymore?

Last ten years? Backpacking trip through Greece and Italy by myself for a month.

For a week? I want to go on this trip to New Zealand. It's technically nine days (I think, there are date line crossings so I get confused), but you leave on Friday from LA, spend eight days wandering around the south island, and then return the next Sunday.

 | So running 7 marathons in 7 days on 6 continents and one island is not that impressive? Tough crowd.

In a related story, I'm surprised Penske didn't post this picture of him in a skirt...

   | Ah, so techinically 7-7-7 marathons in still in play. I may go for that.

 | admittedly cnn sucks. but lawtalkers doesn't reliably post stuff fast enough for it to be my sole news source.

that New Zealand trip sounds excellent! has anyone here ever done one of those organized tour-type trips before? insights? pros/cons? |
