Not much of a tipper, are you?

2 seven course prix fixes, a glass of champagne each (since it's by definition a champagne-worthy occasion), a nice Bordeaux in the $200-250 range, possibly some port, coffee, a decent tip, it's over $500.

Intense alcohol, food, and romance inspired sex afterwards, priceless.
They wine pair each course for only $65 per person.

So you drank Bordeaux with your fish course? I knew you were a rube.

I can definitely see $500 on a great dinner. You can do that here without too much trouble and very easily in Dallas and Houston.

In my experience, the more expensive the meal, the smaller the portion. Once had a "course" that was a full sized plate with a half a grape with crumbly stuff on the cut portion, set next to some sort of tiny parsley type thing with berry sauce drizzled alluring all over the plate. It was a large half-grape, but still.

Obviously I do not have skill in describing food because it sounded fantastic when the waiter described it and it tasted fantastic. I just couldn't believe the effort that went into providing me with 4 calories of sustenance.

Taken out of context, this could be a great line.

I think it is more like $50, but the point is the same. Even at Gary Danko's, unless you order a really, really, really pricey bottle of wine, to reach $500 you have to eat and drink so much that you need a trip to the vomitorium. And no way is your date (assuming your date is a woman) fucking you after eating and drinking all that. A guy might be in the mood for fucking after eating and drinking all that, but no woman is.

Yet another reason not to make you the object of my next splurge.

(Especially when Penske is offering.)

If you must know, we also ordered a half-bottle of white.

And sorry, but the wine-pairing is for people incapable of making a decision on their own.

I thought it was closer to 9.6 calories a shot. Who has a Cosmo handy?

Why do you assume you have to clean plate club it during these meals? I always dry bottle it, but rarely clean plate club it.

And your point? I already said, I get a nice bottle of wine.

Though "really, really pricey" is a different thing altogether. Those sorts of restaurants have more bottles with four digit prices than with two.

Do you need to see my credit card bills?

Let's just use a bit of common sense here, eh? Do you have any idea what a woman who can eat like that looks like? Thin women are thin for a reason. We don't eat like that. And when you consistently don't eat like that, you cannot do it even on a special occassion. I think your stomach shrinks or something like that.

You need to sleep with an Atkins person, I guess. Fewer carbs.

Can anyone suggest a day-date watch that doesn't look like something worn by a Bennigan's manager?

Try to keep it under $500. I know Rolex makes a day-date watch, but I need to pay off my loans. I've been looking on-and-off for over a year, so I remember the discussion on the Stalin Board, but none of the candidates were day-date watches.

And I'm not talking about chronographs with 15 different dials and displays. I don't need to know where North is or how far under water I am.

Advice appreciated.

(And yes, my shoes are above-average in quality.)
I think Tag makes a new sport watch for a little over $500.

Of course, wait until after Xmas to buy.

I'd also try haggling a bit. Some places are pretty desperate. A buddy of mine got a Brietling a few years back for 40% off list by going back a few times when he had business near the watch store and saying "So, you're not moving that piece, are you?"

Well, it's all protein anyway.

No.

So long as you pull out the platinum plastic tomorrow night after hours.
