Is is "Help" or "Hope" on the way?

Hardly surprising. Wasn't the entire theme of the convention "This country is in terrible shape. Anyone could do better. We've chosen John Kerry as the person who can do better. Vote for him."

This was the theme of the Daily Show's Alternate Kerry Video last night, listing the ways that Kerry is notBush. It's funny because it's true.

But so what? Unless Bush is planning on horning in on Cthulu's territory ("Why settle for a lesser evil"), I don't see this a real positive for the Republicans.

Kerry: The Un-Bush

Nick Gillespie of Reason magazine has the best line I've seen so far on Kerrypalooza:

Quote:
A sense of relief is to be expected when you've hitched your star to the wagon of a guy who blames his bodyguards when he falls on the ski slopes. It may well be true that, as a number of pundits have claimed, Kerry gave the best goddamned speech of his career last night. But that's a little like saying Yoko Ono's latest CD is her best-ever: It may well be technically true, but so what?

"Vietnam, where Bush didn't serve" Kerry "Did I mention Vietnam, yah, I went there" film (including many shots taken when he was in Vietnam) and speach (which started with the monumentally stupid line "Reporting for duty" - probably an clumsy attempt to make an allusion to the little known fact he served in Vietnam).
And despite the fact that a number of his comrades in arms appeared with him and endorsed him, a larger number oppose his candidacy and are still a little sore about him calling them war criminals and baby killers... Imagine that. They've demanded he cease and desist using their images in his campaign materials.

It's not a positive for republicans. It was more an observation that the dems still seem not to have offered anything but the cynical reason of being a lesser evil as a reason to vote for Kerry. I had hoped for more.

My favorite news organization, Al Jazeera, is reporting the capture of Zarqawi on the Syrian border.

Given the source, take it with a grain of salt.

I'd love to see the legal or moral theory behind that demand. Shall we poll TCOTU to see if we can stop Bush from using images from Ground Zero?

Sure, Reagan had the economy in better shape in 1987 than Clinton in 2000.
Is that why the income decline was in 2001, and also in 2002?

Your point is really that there wasn't also a recession in 87, as there was under Bush in 01.

I do love, however, when Repubs talk about how the Clinton economy was a mere "bubble." A little different song than your candidate sang in 96, when he said the economy was "in the tank."

Sigh. We all miss the peace and prosperity, and we all find different ways to cope with it.

DNC 2004 Greatest Hits.

Full audio of the DNC speeches is available for free from iTunes Music Store.

Leave at least one hand free while listening to Barack Obama.

And you are basing that on all the times they said "Kerry's the lesser evil" in the campaign, right?

It's Easy, MMMM Kay?

Can anyone argue with Kay's logic that it's impossible to get momentum behind basic reforms of our intelligence services as long as Bush's proxies continue to profess that WMDs (1) are present in Iraq; or (2) were present in Iraq, but have been moved to Syria, and as long as Bush does not put an end to this faith-based initiative on behalf of his reelection bid?

I mean, if (1) or (2) is the case, our intelligence systems are not deeply flawed and in need of restructuring; they're demonstrably better than any other intelligence agency in the history of Earth! If you believe (1) or (2), you've got to stop them from dismantling our amazingly effective intelligence services! There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part, you can't even tacitly take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears, and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop!

Am I right?

All you need to know....

"A South Florida woman who died this week had an unusual last request. Instead of flower or contributions in her name to a charity, she asked those who loved her to try to make sure President George W. Bush is not re-elected.

Joan Abbey, shown here before her death, wanted most of all to have President George W. Bush lose the November election.

Loved ones said that Joan Abbey was committed to her political passions, even in death.

Abbey was born in Montreal...."

Indeed. Though somebody did get captured, Reuters is telling us it appears to be a stunt double. D'oh!

Good news for BC'04: The Kerry campaign is hastily retracting its "Fucker Administration's July Surprise" talking point for today's campaign swing through Pennsylvania. See the details on the ticker below O'Reilly's show today -- but remember to hit Mute so that Bill's screaming doesn't wake the neighbors!

Bad news for BC'04: 35 other talking points.
