Indeed. I'm sure there were no coins, keys, or other items in the pocket. And it was just there for a minute. Or even was like that when they got there.

I have an iPod. Despite my best efforts, the screen has gotten scratched. I'd like it to be hardened sapphire so it wouldn't. But I also though paying $400 was more than enough.
Or perhaps some of them do have really crappy screens that crack and scratch very easily, as the Apple rep pretty much admitted at the UK Expo.

Cracking's one thing, but scratching he said it's no different than any other ipod because it's the same material.

Admitted? This is what he said...
Quote:
As for concerns about surface scratches, Schiller said the product was made out of the same material as Apple's white fourth generation iPod, which had received no complaints.

"We have received very few calls from customers reporting this problem. We do not think this is a widespread issue," he said.

"If customers are concerned about scratching, we suggest they use one of the many iPod Nano cases to protect their iPod."
When I was doing the research last year, this was the main complaint - that the surface scratches too easily. No shit.

Mine's in a case and it's still scratched.

I'm confused that Apple's site has no colors, but http://www.colorwarepc.com/products/...x?configid=890 that one (from Burger from a few weeks ago or whenever) does. Well, whatever. Does putting the color on violate warranties or anything? Hm.

Yes. Admitted. This is what he also said.

Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller responded to those complaints at macworld.com. Schiller addressed the issues of scratched and broken screens separately. In response to reports of broken screens, Schiller promised that if users who have this problem contact Applecare, their iPod nanos will be replaced. He is quoted as saying:
“This is a real but minor issue involving a vendor quality problem in a small number of units. . . . In fact, this issue has affected less than 1/10 of 1 percent of the total iPod nano units that we’ve shipped. It is not a design issue.”

colorware does the coloring themselves. I have done no research, but I suspect they offer a warranty to supplant any voiding of Apple's warranty.

Burger is correct. Colorware has their own 1 yr limited warranty on the products. Click the 'Support' button on the website.

Crap. That fucker's not even a year old yet. And I'm not sure I want a 36" dish on my house.

The birds have already been launched.

Assholes.
Some folks on the Tivo forums have said that DTV support told them that they were going to do a free upgrade for HDTivo users to the new hardware. Support guy told me a couple days ago that the old hardware would be compatible, so who knows what to believe?

At any rate, I put off the HDTivo until the MPEG4 is active, with HD locals over sattelite in some markets (mine included).

Google Wifi

I've been reading about google's bid to provide free WiFi to SF. What's the business model for them? They're not making money by increasing the customer base. Is it simply to ensure that everyone has to start their webbrowsing experience at Google, rather than through their preselected homepage, or pay for that privilege?

Seems like a pretty expensive way to take over the world.

When MSFT made motions toward these things, everybody from privacy advocates to DOJ cried foul. Google might be setting itself up for entry into the OS market --- doing everything MSFT does, but backward.

If you're into delayed gratification, becoming the hero of Freeware and then selling people your branded OS (or even just leveraging your value-added info, like Google Earth) would be a sweet payoff.

XBOX 360

Microsoft confirmed that exclusive Xbox 360 titles available for the holiday season will include the action-adventure game "Kameo: Elements of Power" and the much-anticipated shooting game "Perfect Dark Zero," both from Microsoft-owned Rare.

"Project Gotham Racing 3" from independent game studio Blizzard Creations also should be available in time for Christmas, Microsoft said at a press event in Amsterdam.

Electronic Arts Inc., the world's biggest video game publisher, earlier this month said it will have five titles ready for the Xbox 360 launch. Those titles are "Need for Speed Most Wanted," "FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup(for Weed)," "NBA Live 06," "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06" and "Madden NFL 06."

Microsoft said it will announce more launch titles in the coming weeks.

The Xbox 360, Microsoft's next-generation gaming machine, will be released in the United States and Canada on Nov. 22. The standard version of the console will sell for $300, while a package with extras, including a hard drive that lets users play some games for the original Xbox, will be $400.

new iPod

is officially the video iPod. i think 30 and 60 gigs. All of the sites are pretty slow, so I'm not too sure about specs yet.

From Tivoli

For those who want great sounding music at home or wherever they go, Tivoli Audio introduces the iSongBook, its newest music system with flip-down dock specifically made for the Apple iPod. The flip-down docking station will fit all iPod models and recharges the iPod when docked. The supplied remote control operates both the iPod and the iSongBook.

The new iSongBook features a highly sensitive digital AM/FM tuner for clear and precise reception with a 9k/10k switch for AM reception outside North America, as well as an adjustable, telescoping FM antenna and built-in AM antenna. Stations may be tuned manually or via 5 AM and 5 FM favorite station preset buttons with a “seek” function to automatically search for signals in any country around the world.
