I think managing to give off an air of wisdom and decency, when one is actually not even coherent, is an accomplishment.

Carbona Not Glue
Ramones
(Leave Home)

Wondering what I'm doing tonight I've been in the closet and feel all right

Ran out of Carbona Mom threw out the glue
Ran out of paint and roach spray too It's TV's fault why I am this way

Mom and pop wanna put me away
From the early morning movie to the late late show
After it's over nowhere to go And I'm not sorry for the things I do

My brain is stuck from shooting glue I'm not sorry for the things I do

Carbona not glue

Ummm, you know enough Jewish boys that you should know it really translates to:

I'm too short and slow to be decent at b-ball, but whenever I do anything good at all, I over-inflate my abilities beyond any rational basis.

Maybe it translates both ways? plus the giving up 5" part must spell other issues I can't even translate. Let me call a translator-

Flower, why do people lie about height here?

For the same reason that people lie about their age in real life. Because it's fun and seems innocuous enough. It is not like lying about your gender or something creepy like that. And we're anonymous, so nobody has to know. Or, alternately, if you have actually met some of the posters here in real life and they know that you are not as tall as you claim, you assume that they just treat it as a joke that they are in on.

You have bad taste in men? He's not hot, IMHO -- but maybe he looks better wrapped in leather.

Wait- this might hurt my feelings- are you saying diminutive grey haired bitter looking bald guys aren't sexy, or are you saying he dresses wrong? One hurts- one I agree with.

Goodbye Mr. Chips

SD posted about this book on the death pool board. Not because Mr. Chips died (which he probalby did based on that title but I havent read this so who knows, not me) and I wagered a guess about what it was about. I said something about a retarded old guy who hangs out with young boys. Turns out I wasnt far off.

But this description makes this book sound like a creepy NeverLand Ranch saga. Has anyone read tihs ? Is there a pedophilia theme here?

Editorial Reviews

The Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia of Literature
Sentimental novel by James Hilton, published serially and in book form in 1934. The work depicts the career of a gentle schoolteacher at an English public school. Arthur Chipping ("Mr. Chips") is a middle-aged bachelor who falls in love with and marries a young woman whom he has met on a mountaineering vacation. They live happily at Brookfield School until her death, only a few years later. Mr. Chips devotes the rest of his life to educating many generations of boys. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

You dress just great, Hank, don't worry.

If you're going to read James Hilton, I would start here, in Shangri-La:

Please, I am twenty years too old to read this guy. I think that anything assigned to me in high school , if read now, would seem either 1) highly melodramatic; 2) would revolve aroudn the death of someone before their time; 3) would be written in olde english which I don't speak; 4) would be preachy and/or 5) would generally be unfunny, uninteresting and unentertaining. I cannot think of a single book read in high school that I would want to read again at this point. I am not sure my college near-major of English provided anythign to exciting though I liked JOhn O'Hara. For a college book. But high school? forget it.

His girlfriend is incredibly orgasmic and has a weird fetish. His wife is faking.

At least that's what I've heard.
